PEACE IS the new measure of success.

TRUTH IS the new security.

JOY IS the new status symbol."

Healthy is the New Sexy

Judging by the constant bombardment of advertisers pitching everything as "sexy," I'd guess sexy is in. I don't see sexy the way most people do though. To me, sexy is not about being sexual, showing lots of cleavage, wearing skin tight skimpy outfits, or strutting around like John Travolta in "Saturday Night Fever."

Sexy is an inner and outer glow. Sexy is strength and stability in the midst of challenges. Sexy is being supple and fluid at any age. Sounds a lot like healthy, doesn't it?

Being healthy creates self-esteem and self-confidence. Someone with a strong sense of body confidence is sexy. When a person is comfortable in his or her own skin, people take notice, because its attractive.

What's so sexy about being healthy?

  • Radiant, glowing skin
  • Bright, clear eyes
  • Calm, peaceful demeanor, yet fully and vibrantly alive
  • Sense of humor / can laugh at themselves
  • Practical spirituality
  • Responsible for their personal growth

How to be healthier in 2014:

  • Make self-care and wellness a priority. Schedule yoga classes, massages, hikes and gym sessions with friends on your calendar and then stick to it.
  • Learn about the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda applied to a modern lifestyle. You can learn about it on-line, or attend an Ayurveda workshop in your area (do an Internet search).
  • Become conscious of what you eat. Not so much calories, but the quality and quantity of the food you consume. It makes a difference in how you look and feel. Each meal should have a protein (preferably plant based), a carb (lean and/or starchy), and a healthy fat (half of a small avocado). Eat what can comfortably fit in your two palms per meal. Fresh, organic food, home cooked with love is best, not frozen, prepackaged, canned, or microwaved. You are what you eat, so choose wisely - it shows!
  • Surround yourself with clear-headed, conscious people. People committed to spiritual growth and development who are up to interesting things in the world. You reflect those around you.
  • Stay connected. Studies show that people with an active social life of friends, family, and community are healthier. Make a commitment to maintain your social life and stay connected. Who wants to be sexy all by themselves.

Do your part to create more health in your life in 2014. Not just to be "sexier," but to enjoy a better quality of life. In order to immerse yourself in all that life has to offer, you have to be healthy. Who wants to look sexy if you're not healthy enough to enjoy it?

Here's to a healthy, and sexy, new year!

Namaste,

Debbie
