Greetings!
"LOVE IS the new currency. PEACE IS the new measure of success. TRUTH IS the new security. JOY IS the new status symbol." ~Debbie Barnett~ |

To be empowered means to have the ability to gain control of your own life and to be able to act on what's important to you. In order to be empowered, you have to let go of the status quo. Status quo is easy. Stepping out is much harder. What if you fail? What if you embarrass yourself? What will others think of you? What if? What if? What if?
Without risk, there is no growth. Risk can be scary, paralyzing even. If there's a little bit of fear (okay, maybe a lot of fear) present, that's a good sign. It means you're pushing beyond those imaginary boundaries that keep you stuck. A bit of fear is an indication that you're expanding, growing, and moving beyond your comfort zone.
The effects of empowerment are many: increased self-confidence and self-esteem, improved relationships, more joy and happiness, self-actualization, and the ability to pursue your dreams. Walt Disney said, "All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them."
When you're empowered, it affects more than just you. We lead by example. As you become empowered, you give others permission to do the same. Be an example for your family and friends to follow.
What makes you to feel empowered? Maybe its something simple, like attempting a challenging pose like Crow. It could be joining a public speaking group like Toastmasters. Maybe its standing up for yourself and creating boundaries with someone who usually tramples all over you.
To get started on the road to empowerment, answer these questions:
- Where are you holding back? Where are you playing small? What fears do you have around going all out?
- What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail?
- What small risk can you take now that will help you in stepping outside your comfort zone?
- What area of your life feels stuck or stagnant? What action can you take to create movement in this area?
Be brave. Take a chance. Empower yourself to live the best possible life you can. You're worth it!
Namaste,
Debbie
