Stories of Triumph: Adam and Paul

When a mentor and mentee come together to forge a relationship that is positive and meaningful for both, it's a true success.  Recently, YouthZone celebrated the graduation of a Pals Mentoring relationship that lasted four years and created a bond between both the mentor and mentee that will continue long after the formal mentor relationship has ended. We're pleased to provide details of YouthZone's newest program, Pals Plus Mentoring!

Pals Plus Mentoring provides adults with an opportunity to play a key role in shaping a young person's future. Ann expansion of YouthZone's Pals Mentoring program, Pals Plus Mentoring targets youth who face more complex challenges than youth who are currently served through our original mentoring program.  (Read more ...)
Valley View Hospital Safety Fair

Valley View Hospital's annual Safety Fair will be held on Saturday, September 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  New to this year's fair is a Teen Zone and YouthZone will be attending!  There will be great giveaways for teens, including a mountain bike, iPads, helmets, and drivers' education scholarships!  Food compliments of Kiwanis and other great family activities will also be available!

Parenting Tip

It's important for parents to not show anger while disciplining their child.  Our friends at Love and Logic recently reminded us with a great tip:  When kids see their parents being frustrated over their behavior it tells them that their parents can't handle them. It is quite scary for kids to think, "If my parents can't even take control of me, how will they be able to protect me?" This can create great insecurity.

Anger might help you feel better at the time, but it serves no good purpose when disciplining a child.  Great advice!
YouthZone Featured Artist

One of our very creative YouthZone clients shared his amazing talent through the above painting.  This work tells a story of becoming sober after marijuana use, coming into the positive, and the supportive people that help us enter the positive.  All of us at YouthZone were so touched by this piece, we had to share!
Staff News

We're very sad to have said goodbye to YouthZone's Finance Manager, JoyLynn Leuallen. JoyLynn served more than ten years at YouthZone and will be missed by all of us, as her dedication to the organization and her friendship were tremendously appreciated!  As JoyLynn moves to Montanna with her family and starts a new chapter, we are pleased to announce that Glenda Cortez has accepted the position of our new Finance Manager!  Glenda, too, has been a valuable member of the YouthZone team, and we're excited to welcome her into a new role!

YouthZone is hiring a PT, High Fidelity Wraparound Facilitator.  If you or someone you know is interested in working with young people in an innovative environment, learn more about the position here.

Some of the kids at YouthZone have been working with Growing Food Forward, a creative organization who grows food for families in need! Growing Food Forward recently put together a nice presentation about their summer program and it can be viewed here!
