G.O.A.L. Academy

For some students, traditional classroom settings simply don't match their educational needs, which can lead to poor attendance and performance.  Luckily, there are alternative schools that may offer solutions for students who want to receive a quality education.  One such organization that is available for students in the YouthZone service area is G.O.A.L. Academy - a free, public high school. (Read more ...)

Parenting Tip

Trying to get your tween or teen to open up to you is a never ending battle!  One quick tip ... try asking "What" before "Why."  Asking kids "why" they did something often puts them on the defensive. For example, "Why are you not talking to your friend Katie?" may not solicit the dialogue you're hoping for, while "What happened between you and Katie that has you upset?" may help you find the root of the problem.
New Substance Education & Intervention Program

YouthZone is pleased to introduce a new Substance Education & Intervention program.  The program
begins with a thorough assessment, leading to a tailored program that is designed for the specific needs of the youth involved.  Initiatives will include an educational class focusing on issues involving signs of substance abuse, triggers, and healthy coping techniques, including resources and where to go for help. A teen group will also be available and is designed for youth with substance-related issues, trauma, or both. Through group therapy, adolescents benefit from the influence they have on each other as peers.

If interested in the new program, please call YouthZone at
970-945-9300 to arrange the assessment and evaluation with a Case Manager.
