Form 2 - Miss Tunmore

Miss Tunmore remains on sick leave. In the meantime we have been fortunate to secure the services of Mrs Baldwin. The St.Winifred's team's priority is to ensure continuity of learning for Form 2. We thank you for your understanding and support and wish Miss Tunmore a speedy recovery.

Photographs

We will be taking individual photographs in school on the following dates: 

Wednesday 23rd September - Preschool, Reception, Form 1, Form 2 and siblings
 
Thursday 24th September - Form 3, Form 4, Form 5, Form 6 
 
Pupils should wear winter uniform, including their blazers, please.

MacMillan Coffee 

We will be serving coffee and cake for MacMillan on Friday 25th September at 3pm in the school hall.  Donations of cake would be gratefully received.  Please bring in donations after school on the 24th, or in the morning of the 25th. Thank you.

Horrible Histories   

 

We will be taking Forms 3 to 6 to the Mayflower Theatre to see Horrible Histories Incredible Invaders on Friday 25th September during the school day. Please ensure payment of £10 is made to the school by Thursday 24th September. Thank you.

 

Form 6 this week
In English we will be completing our classic fiction study of the "Just So" stories by Rudyard Kipling.

In Maths we are looking at decimals as well as multiples, factors and prime numbers.

In Science we are continuing our studies in Evolution and Inheritance Biology.

Following our trip to Milestones Museum, we will continue to learn about Paleontology and Geology.

Form 5 this week
It's going to be another busy week in Form 5 this week.
 
In English we are continuing our focus on historical stories by dipping into War Game and In Flanders Fields for inspiration for our own World War One themed writing.
 
In Maths we are reacquainting ourselves with the art of subtraction as well as sharpening our mental maths skills.
 
After the success of our William Morris inspired letters last week in Art, Forms 5 & 6 will be creating day tiles using William Morris' designs for inspiration.
 
In Science we are looking at the mysteries of the universe and taking a closer look at the planets that inhabit our solar system.

Coming up in Form 1
Form 1 are learning about money and time this week in Maths.  The children will be learning to add 1p and 2p coins up to different totals and finding ways to pay amounts to 10p.  They will also be introduced to telling the time to the hour.

In English we are looking at a non-fiction book 'Not a Stick' by Antoinette Portis.  Sequencing a familiar story, writing labels and creating descriptive phrases.

In Music we are carrying on with our weather theme and exploring sequences, sound and movement.

This Week in Preschool:

Thank you all of those who brought in the baby photos.

This forthcoming week our theme is 'what I can do!'  We will be practising many of the children's skills, including their scissor
skills.

We would appreciate the donation of old magazines or catalogues which the children can use for cutting out practise, please. 

Also, can I remind you that the children need a coat in Preschool, because we do go outside at playtime and it is getting colder now.

Our phonic of the week is  't'
Coming up for Form 3
English - Stories from other cultures will be the theme for the next three weeks for Form 3. The books we will be studying are Tiger Child and Seasons of Splendour. In the first week of this theme we will focus on writing notes to create a synopsis for a traditional folk tale. 

Science - The children will identify the right type and amount of nutrition for animals and human needs; understanding they cannot make their own food.

Maths - adding and subtracting numbers mentally. We will also be solving problems using more complex addition and subtraction.
Reception in the coming week
In Reception we will be continuing our topic of 'People who help us' and 'Ourselves'.  We will be looking at 2D shapes in Maths and thinking about the difference between stories and information books in English, as well as continuing with our phonics scheme.  

The children are keen to teach you the songs and games they have learnt!  

On Wednesday the children will need to arrive in winter uniform for the school photographs and bring their games kit to change into.

Maths: subtracting and understanding the link between addition and subtraction.
 
English: we will be going on holiday and writing postcards.
 
Science: we will be learning to identify and compare the suitability of everyday materials.

There have been several issues with lost uniform this last week.
 

Please ensure all items, including shoes, are named.

Gregg School Open Evening  

 

You are invited to attend an Open Evening at the Gregg School, our senior school on Wednesday 30th September, between 5.30pm and 8.30pm.

 

Form 4 this week
Maths: More addition and subtraction this week and hopefully some work on shapes too.
 
English: It's our last week studying fables where pupils will be writing and performing their own stories with morals.
 
Science: more sounds to listen to, but also to try and not listen to as Form 4 investigate soundproofing.
 
History: More studying of Ancient Greece and we'll be looking at famous Greeks.
 
Religious Studies: How do symbols help?
