Essential Paperwork

Your child has brought home an envelope with important paperwork for you to complete.  Please can you check your child's bag and return the paperwork on Monday.  

We would also like to welcome a new preschool assistant to the staff, Miss Emily Cutler.

Jeans for Genes

We will be raising money for Jeans for Genes day on Friday 18th September. Children can bring in £1 and wear non uniform for the day.
Photographs

We will be taking individual photographs in school on the following dates: 

Wednesday 23rd September - Preschool, Reception, Form 1, Form 2 and siblings
 
Thursday 24th September - Form 3, Form 4, Form 5, Form 6 
 
Pupils should wear winter uniform, including their blazers, please.

Open Class   

 

We would like to invite you to visit your child's class on Tuesday 15th or Thursday 17th September, between 3.30pm and 4.15pm. These sessions are aimed to help your child settle in to their new class environment and for parents to discuss the year ahead with the teacher. Form 3 please note Mrs Goss will be hosting the Open Class on Tuesday and Mrs Jolley on Thursday.

 

MacMillan Coffee 

We will be serving coffee and cake for MacMillan on Friday 25th September at 3pm in the school hall.  Donations of cake would be gratefully received.  Please bring in donations after school on the 24th, or in the morning of the 25th.

Horrible Histories   

 

We will be taking Forms 3 to 6 to the Mayflower Theatre to see Horrible Histories Incredible Invaders on Friday 25th September during the school day. A letter will be sent to parents with the details early next week.

 

Form 6 this week
In English, we are continuing to study and enjoy Rudyard Kipling looking at the 'Just So' stories. 
 
In Maths, we will be covering mental and written addition and subtraction of large numbers. 
 
In Science, we are continuing to study Evolution and Inheritance biology. 
 
And as part of our 'Palaeontologists on Tour' topic, we will be visiting the 'Dino Hunter' exhibition at Milestones in Basingstoke.

Form 5 this week
 
English: continuing to study the book War Horse looking at the features of historical fiction.
 
Maths: Written addition of money and place value in decimals.

Science: Focus on eclipses and how the seasons are created.
History: What was life in the trenches like in WW1?
Art: Focus on the Victorian designer William Morris

Coming up in Form 1
The children will be continuing their work on Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems.  They will be learning about speech bubbles and will begin to plan a story they want to write about based on one of the books we have been focusing on.
 
Maths this week will be all about addition.  The children will begin to understand addition as combing two sets and record the related addition sentences.  They will be learning to relate counting on to addition.
 
In Geography Form 1 will identify daily weather patterns and complete a weather chart using symbols.  They will be talking, naming and understanding different types of weather.  Playing a game 'What weather is this' and making a Weather Wheel.

This Week in Preschool:

Please can your child bring in a labelled photo of themselves as a baby to share with their classmates.

Our phonic of the week is "a".

Our theme this week is "My Family"

Coming up for Form 3

English - continuing with looking at books from the same author. The children will also learn writing in 1st or 3rd person, Using complex sentences in own writing, Use apostrophes in speech for contracted forms & Complete the story and edit it to remove errors.
 
Science - The class will be continuing looking at the Food Chain but focusing more on food allergies. We may also have a visitor talking about food allergies and showing us replacement foods.

Maths - We will be continuing with our unit on place value. We will be identifying, representing and estimating numbers using different representations.

Reception in the coming week
In Reception we will be learning about 'People who help us' and the role play area has become a doctors surgery.  

We are also still thinking about 'ourselves' and how we have changed since we were babies- thank you for all the lovely photos!  

We will be practising counting objects, recognising numerals in maths, and thinking about describing words in English. We will continue to have fun with our phonics scheme!
This Week:

Menu week 3
In Form 2 this week:
Maths - Form 2 will be learning about addition and recalling the different strategies they can use to help them do this when using bigger numbers.

 Geography - We will be looking at the wildlife which lives in the game reserves and national parks of Kenya as well as learning about the Masai Tribe.

RS - The children will be continuing to look at symbols and at how these are used across the different religions.

Just a reminder that all of the children do need aprons in school for lunchtime as well as for the occasional Art and DT session.

School Uniform

There have been several issues with lost uniform this last week.
 

Please ensure all items, including shoes are named.
Form 4 this week
English: We will be discussing and writing about morals as we keep our focus on Aesop's Fables.

Maths: More addition and subtraction as well as developing our mental maths skills.

Science: How do our ears work? We will discover how inside our ear works and how we hear sound.

History: Back to basics as we learn the alphabet, the Greek alphabet that is. Don't worry it's as easy as 'Pi' and you could try and revise it if you have nothing 'Beta' to do.

Art: More doodling in art in response to sounds that we hear. This time though we'll be using geometric shapes.

RS: Continuing with our signs and symbols we will look at special objects and what they mean to us.

 

Gregg School Open Evening  

 

You are invited to attend an Open Evening at the Gregg School, our senior school on Wednesday 30th September, between 5.30pm and 8.30pm.
