Welcome back everyone          

 

We have had a busy summer with maintenance and improvement works around the school.  Following the replacement of drains, we are awaiting the delivery of new gates for access into the playground. We have also had our computer network upgraded.

 

The children have returned looking immaculate in their school uniform. Thank you. The term has started well and the children are busting with enthusiasm  and enjoying school life, long may it continue!

 

Thank you for making use of the school "shop" last week. Please do continue to support the nearly new shop with donations, it is a "win win" arrangement for everyone! The next shop opening will be advertised in the newsletter. 

Staff changes     

 

Welcome to Miss Spencer who has joined the staff to teach our Monday swimming sessions.

 

Miss Falvey has had an operation on her foot and will be off recovering until November.  In her absence Mr Widdup will be our caretaker.

 

Open Class   

 

We would like to invite you to visit your child's class on Tuesday 15th and Thursday 17th September, between 3.30pm and 4.15pm. These sessions are aimed to help your child settle in to their new class environment and for parents to discuss the year ahead with the teacher.

 

Form 6 this week
English - We are looking at classic Fiction studying Rudyard Kipling

Science -  our topic will be "Evolution and inheritance biology". 

PSHE -  we are4 thinking about fixed and growth mindsets.

Our new top is "Palaeontologists on Tour" looking at the exciting area of rocks and fossils.

Form 5 this week
Welcome back all you Form 5 children.  We have exciting new topics to study this term.

In English we are looking at historical stories starting with the brilliant War Horse by Michael Morpurgo.

Linking to English in History this half-term we are looking at the beginnings of WW1.

In Maths this week we are revising our knowledge of number and place value with a dash of column addition thrown in.

In Science we're heading into outer space to look at the Sun and the Moon.

  
Coming up in Form 1
Form 1 children are settling well into their new routines and expectations of them, and will be continued next week.

In maths we will be learning to count reliably up to 20 objects, making estimates and making 'teen' numbers by adding more to 10, using cubes.

English we are talking about our favourite toy and reading a story about a toy being lost and another about 'The dog and lost Mum'.  They will be writing their own speech bubbles for Trixie.  

Don't forget to label your child's favourite soft toy for school on Monday please!

We will be starting our topic about weather too.  Lots of fun and learning beginning to happen!!

This week in Pre-school, the children will be talking about their exciting summer adventures.  They are welcome to bring in items to show their friends.

Coming up for Form 3
Maths - This week we will be learning about place value. We will be reading, writing, comparing and ordering numbers up to 1000.
 
English - We will be looking at stories by the same author starting with I'll Take You to Mrs Cole & Dinosaurs and all that Rubbish by Nigel Gray & Michael Foreman. The class will Looking at both books in detail and discussing it, Writing lists, Adding suffixes and spelling, group reading, using conjunctions (joining words) and verbs and using powerful verbs  .

Science - Programme of study: Identify that animals, including humans, need the right types and amount of nutrition, and that they cannot make their own food; they get nutrition from what they 

Reception in the coming week
 Reception children have settled in to school very quickly and confidently and have been exploring their new classroom, making new friends and learning new routines.  

Our topic is 'Ourselves' and we will be thinking about what we are like, what we enjoy doing, and what we can do.  We will talk about our families and the activities we do outside school, and each child will bring Wilfred Bear home to stay for a sleepover, and add to his 'diary'.  

We start swimming lessons on Monday and will also begin our phonics scheme, so it will be a busy week!

Welcome back

Maths - Form 2 will be learning about place value as well as more than and less than.


English - We will be looking at a range of different stories and at some of the features each author has used.

Just a reminder that the children do need aprons in school for lunches, as well as for the occasional Art and DT sessions.

English: Aesop's Fables

Maths: Place value, addition and subtraction.

Science: We will be looking at, and listening to sounds. Finding out how sound is made.

History: Ancient Greece. How did the Greeks live and what did they wear.

Art: We will be doodling, but in an artistic way.

RS: What do everyday signs and symbols mean? Form 4 will hopefully have the answers.

Clubs
A list of internal clubs for this term and the sign up information will emailed during the week of 14th September,and they will start in the week commencing 20th September.

Pupils in Forms 1 to 6 are invited to sign up for Judo Club , which will be held at lunchtimes on Thursdays, starting on 10th September.
