Greetings FOA Families,
The painting of our major elementary building is coming along very well. The painters have been very accommodating and the students and staff have worked around the scaffolding and extra people on campus beautifully. We all are moving in a syncopated rhythm being flexible and respectful of others.
Our Pennies for Patients assembly last Friday was energetically presented by a representative from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. FOA students and staff were included in an interactive demonstration of the role of red blood cells and white blood cells, and a super-hero cure that knocked the "bad guys" out of the park. The family who founded LLS 20 years ago after losing their daughter to leukemia, now rejoice to see the results of their efforts. This organization is the largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding research, finding cures and ensuring access to treatments for blood cancer patients. They are now seeing a 90% success rate for these cancers! Thank you for supporting this very worthy cause while teaching your children compassion and generosity. The small coin collection boxes the students brought home may be filled with cash and returned to the classroom each time they are full, to be added to the classroom tally. Our goal is to be able to present LLS with a check for $1,000. Pennies for Patients turns the problem of spare change into a solution for cancer.

Candy Northrop and the "Positive Discipline" Workshop
Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 7:00pm
Are you looking for a few new tools to enhance your skills as a parent? Perhaps your child has reached a new phase in his development, and you aren't quite sure of some good ways to communicate with him, or with your spouse, or even the people with whom you work. Candy Northrop, a 32-year educator in the Arcadia schools, will be here to whet your appetite with an approach known as "Positive Discipline." Join us as we add some new tools to our parenting tool belts.
Don't forget you will earn one Parent Participation hour for your attendance.
