Website Calendar |  SignUp Genius | Parent Hour Log
Greetings FOA Families,

I'm sure all of you have noticed that there is a long-awaited facelift going on along the outside of our elementary classrooms.   An FOA parent approached me at the end of last school year, distressed by the faded condition of our buildings.  When I approached the church about painting they said they would be willing to cover half of the cost.  For our part, we are delighted to tell you that we have received a couple of generous donations to cover FOA's portion of the expense. We are so thankful to be partnering with people who so strongly support Foothill Oaks Academy!

Restaurant nights for FOA families have traditionally been a casual evening of building community while raising funds.  We usually average $150-200 per event, but this year, Mrs. Wardhana connected us to Chipotle where we raised over $750 in just one delicious evening!  An additional $50 came from those who purchased dessert at Menchies.  Thank you so much for purposefully choosing to benefit FOA by your dinner choices!  We may return to Chipotle at another time, but are also considering other venues.  Some parents have asked for a monthly restaurant night, which we will discuss at our next FOAPA meeting.  Our school has a pretty full calendar for the next few months, so we'll see how it will work out.

Today, two representatives from City of Hope's Science Education Program, funded by National Institute of Health, came to inform us about opportunities for our students.  Second, fifth and eighth graders will be invited to join Duarte Unified students as they experience various hands-on science activities lead by COH graduate students and post-docs.  For each class there will be a field trip to the research hospital, and for the second graders there will be an additional classroom visit by COH educators.  We are excited to have this wonderful option available to our students and staff in the near future.

Sincerely,

Nancy Lopez
Principal
