fall back 2013

Last week was a wild week of activity for our school!  We were so happy with the Red Ribbon Week assembly on Thursday which started us on track for this special week of remembrance.  Students are thrilled to have special treats for each day this week which are in keeping with a variety of Red Ribbon week themes.  Tuesday is "Don't Let Drugs Twist You Up" (red vines), Wednesday is "Smarties Don't Do Drugs" (wear all red, or uniform, and eat "Smarties"), Thursday is Halloween Parade Drug-Free Day, and Friday they receive a themed bookmark.    We hope for a bright and healthy future for the students of Foothill Oaks Academy.

Our one big family-oriented event of the year, the Harvest Festival, was a fun-filled success because of the energetic assistance of our families and staff!  Major effort was put forth by Mrs. Tamparong and her planning committee: Mrs. Zanteson planned and decorated the game booths, Mrs. Kay managed the food booth, and Mrs. Flores donated funds for the jumper, all of the cheesy nachos, and manned the bake sale booth all night!  Ms. Touchette helped with planning, worked all day on preparations, decorating and lighting, and donated the use of a generator.   Several of the fathers/grandfathers transported and set up lighting.   There was a great outpouring of support all day Friday and we can't possibly name all of the people who helped to make this night possible, but please know that we are grateful for all of those who participated in all ways, great and small.

Pizza lunch last Friday was put in place by Mrs. Berry with the help of Mrs. Sato-Lim and Mrs. Takizawa.  The students loved it!

Today we hosted 15 high schools for our informative High School Fair at 11 a.m.  Middle school parents were invited to come and tour the tables of information set out on the middle school blacktop.  Over the past couple of years there has been a declining turn out of FOA parents, the primary target audience for this event, so we are now considering holding the High School Fair every other year.

Middle school has a Halloween Dance at 5:00pm this evening in Room 15.  Students all help with clean up and are picked up near the Daycare Room at 8:30 p.m.

The all-school Halloween Parade is at 9 a.m. on Thursday, and we invite all parents to come with their cameras to see the parade on the big grassy field.  Students will then parade around the campus and gather treats from our Student Council representatives who are posted at various doorways.  It is a delightful trick-or-treat experience.  Some of our youngest students then share Halloween fun with the residents of Royal Oaks Manor, spreading joy to their elders.

Have a great week,

Mrs. Lopez
