Recent activities have really kept things hopping around FOA.  Friday night's Dodger game was attended by seven or eight families along with some grandparents.  The Dodgers slaughtered the Colorado Rockies, 11-0!  ...due in part to our attendance, we're sure!

Saturday began with enthusiastic celebration of Duarte's 19th Route 66 Parade. The annual event on our little stretch of the 2,248-mile Mother Road is a nod to the many years of motorists experiencing the soul and spirit of the road's culture.    It was a warm day, and the route was longer than anticipated, but spirits remained high as Mrs. Johansen and Mrs. Chagoyen led cheers and marching chants.  Many families, from preschool to middle school, attended and handed out balloons.  Middle school students tossed candy to parade watchers.  The children proudly gathered together to carry our school banner.  Mrs. Freeman and Miss Kington were our noble leaders.

After the parade, there was a picnic at Royal Oaks Park where many families wandered to food booths, made crafts, and viewed the antique cars at the car show.  We had a booth where we talked to families about the possibilities of private education for their children and passed out information to let people know we are here!

Thursday is our first big FOAPA meeting.  We are excited to say that several people volunteered at Back to School Night to help with the leadership at our school. We are hopeful this will make a difference when we are planning events, and working to unite families together in our school family.  Our president, Priscilla Townsend, has arranged babysitting this first time.  She is springing for part of the cost, and since it is a considerable expense we will see how many people are able to attend because of this added convenience.

"Pennies for Patients" begins October 7, next Monday.  This is usually a spring event, but we are trying to spread out the demands on family pockets.  There will be a special assembly on Friday the 11th to further inform students about the need to fund research for childhood leukemia and lymphoma.

Have a nice week,

Mrs. Lopez

MINIMUM DAY THIS FRIDAY

All students will be dismissed at noon this Friday.  Please remember to make pick up arrangements for this early release.  There are no clubs/lessons scheduled on Friday due to Minimum Day.

FOA PA Meeting

Our first FOA Parent Association meeting is planned for this Thursday at 6:15pm. PLEASE plan to attend.  All FOA families are part of the PA but we can only be truly successful with everyone's participation and support.  We have a great group of enthusiastic PA officers ready to lead the way, so we look forward to seeing you as we kick off another exciting year!

Harvest Festival Meeting Friday

We will continue to meet weekly on Friday mornings after coffee.  All are encouraged to come and bring your talents to the preparation of this event.  There are so many details...there can never be too much help!  This week will focus on the games/game booths.  See you there!

Parent Hour Opportunity

We are in need of 2 parent volunteers to help at the Monrovia Street Fair this Friday night from 5pm to 8pm.

A Thank You From Mrs. Townsend
2013-2014 FOAPA President

  Thanks!

Thank you to everyone who attended our First Annual FOA Dodger Night.  Everyone really had a fun time!  I apologize for the short notice on this year's event, but rest assured, there will be plenty of lead time on next year's game, as well as seats closer to the action!

Next, be watching for information about our first FOA Kings Night coming later this year!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out to the Route 66 parade Saturday!  Our FOA families were wonderful.... they survived waiting in line and hot temperatures to help get the word out about our school!  I appreciate everyone giving up their Saturday morning...your willingness to give of your time really makes all the difference, and is appreciated more than I can express!
Family Directory
Directory Cover 12.13

We hope to begin work on this year's Family Directory in the next couple of weeks.  In an effort to support each other in the FOA community, we would like to offer families the opportunity to include personal business information in the back of the directory.  Please submit a business card to Mrs. Hurte no later than Friday, October 11th, if you would like your information included.
