Know Who You're Dealing With?
How to build trust with the folks who serve you...

 

Do you know who you're dealing with? 
Can you 
trust the people you let service your car, prepare your food, treat your child and the like?
Can they trust YOU to communicate your requests clearly, pay them on time and to not slander their name? The world is-a changing. The internet and social media can serve to bring us together, yet also rip us apart - often viscously. Today we'll discuss how to develop a mutually-beneficial relationship with your servicer while utilizing social media in a responsible, respectful way.

 

Before I dish the details - I must shamelessly plug our store's recent  FEATURE in the Asbury Park Press!  This actually does enrich the lesson outlined in this newsletter, I promise. We were just so excited to see ourselves in the newspaper and to hear all of the wonderful sentiments expressed by our family, friends and existing customers! The icing on the cake was all of the NEW customers we met as a result of the article...

So why did these new people choose to come to us? Aside from learning of our existence and needing the services we offered, they chose us over the competition because they trusted us. Folks shared how they enjoyed learning about our team's personal history, why we got into this business, our challenges and dreams. Point is - the newspaper can be a great resource to learn about businesses and services. Rich with advertisements, you'll also see professional reviews, informative editorials and investigative reports. But the paper is just one of many reputable outlets to gain information about who you may choose to do business with.

 

BACK TO THE STORY...  Being the nerd that I am, I appreciate the value of homework. I very rarely jump into anything. I like to study before I talk about something; know where I'm going; know what I'm buying - and who from - long before I take the plunge. And much as I love libraries, I admit that I'm an internet junkie. I research there constantly! Here in our vac stores, we frequently tell our customers to go learn more about our products online by "Googling" them or visitng our website or YouTube channel! We can smell skepticism from a mile away and want our customers to be comfortable with us and our products.  

 

When researching out in the ether, it goes without saying to use discretion. Some sources are naturally more reputable than others, so consult them carefully. Yet I've found some of the best advice comes from what you may assume is a terrible, "biased" source. Aside from professional reporting organizations, see what tips and you can get from professionals directly. YouTube videos, advice articles and newsletters created by business owners can provide you with an insane amount of thought-provoking, super-helpful information. You may feel guarded because they are "trying to sell you something." Of course - everybody is! But as is the case with this very newsletter,pros (like us) offer you highly valuable information in order to build your trust and teach you ways to better communicate your needs to us. We give a little up front: You appreciate the value you've received. Together, we can communicate in a more intelligent, trusting way that ensures you get exactly what you need. We then enjoy happy, loyal customers.

 

There's a "recipe" for everything. For a good business relationship, the aforementioned research and detailed communication are the first two essential "ingredients." If you skip a step or substitute with a poor-quality ingredient, your results will suffer. I discovered a great article about how to develop trust with your doctor by Jeffrey Kreisberg, Phd. One part illustrated the importance of kindness when confer with your physician.  "Being respectful and courteous toward your physician was the No. 2 thing doctors said patients could do to get better." This tip can apply to anything!  
I consider courteousness a 
high-quality form of the communication "ingredient."
  Either party coming off snarky, defensive, demanding or accusatory (albeit justified at times) destroys the quality of communication. No icing on that cake! Lousy results are guaranteed....
