 Good Vibrations
By Paul Mac Donald, Executive Director
On a recent Air Canada flight from Toronto to Vancouver, I had an interesting exchange with the In-Charge Flight Attendant, a young man named Kirk Horsman. I was complimenting him on the excellent service he and his team were providing. Kirk was exceptionally friendly and outgoing and really wanted his passengers to be comfortable on his flight. He had a great attitude and it showed. Somehow our conversation turned to laughter over the Louie CK skit on air travel and how funny it is that passengers can get upset at the smallest transgression in flight all while failing to appreciate the miracle of modern day flight. Kirk mentioned that too often we reward customers for bad behavior, and I asked, "How so?" He replied, "Well, the squeaky wheel gets the oil, doesn't it?" Read More

Come with me now on a journey of Total Appliance Enlightenment. Read More

Effective Leadership vs. Management
"Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself.
When you become a leader, it's all about growing others." - Jack Welch
Everyone who has a job has a boss/manager, but does everyone have a leader? I never hear people complain about leaders, but every day someone somewhere complains about their boss or manager. Firstly, leadership is action, not position. Just because someone is in a role of control does not mean the person is a leader. In all my years of working with top companies I find the best leaders are typically poor managers and the best managers are typically poor leaders. All managers have to do some leading and all leaders have to
do some managing. Finding the right balance for the job is what isreally important. Managers are necessary and leaders are essential. Read More

 Parts Distributors Impact Business
By Paul Mac Donald Relationship opportunities come to us all the time with parents, children, friends, business associates and even the casual stranger we meet and connect with. Every interaction with another, offers us a chance to be in a relationship. We spend 30% of our working day building a significant proportion of our relationships from our business experiences. Typically we focus on our employees and customers spending a significant amount of time nurturing these key relationships. What about our parts distributors? Every service company is dependent on parts distributors. You need them as much as they need you and when you find a good one, treat them right to keep them working for you. Work as hard on building good distributor relationships as you do building a good relationship with your employees and customers. Parts distributors are essential to your business's good health and growth. Read More
