St. Louis Business Journal

About the RHC
The RHC is a collaborative effort of St. Louis City, St. Louis County, the state of Missouri, health providers, and community members to improve the health of uninsured and underinsured citizens in St. Louis City and County.

RHC AND NINE NETWORK PARTNER ON MEDICAID PROGRAM

On January 28, the Nine Network broadcast a program examining the Medicaid decision facing Missouri from the perspective of providers, hospitals, politicians, and patients. This program was subsequently broadcast in other markets throughout Missouri, reaching tens of thousands with the important message about the impact of Medicaid in Missouri. The RHC funded and sponsored this important educational program.

RHC RELEASES DISCUSSION GUIDE
Following the broadcast, the RHC distributed key video messages from
the program and an accompanying discussion guide, "The Impact of the Medicaid Decision in Missouri," to stakeholders in the region. Missouri Foundation for Health also distributed over 200 DVDs of the clips and discussion guides to attendees of their Medicaid forums throughout the state. We invite you to check out the clips and discussion guide online. If you are interested in receiving a DVD of the clips, please contact Rosie Stafford.

FINDINGS FROM DECADE REVIEW OF HEALTH STATUS REPORT SHARED WIDELY THROUGHOUT THE REGION

In December 2012, the RHC released its Decade Review of Health Status Report, which offers the most comprehensive and localized review of regional health status that has been produced in ten years. The report focuses on change in leading health status indicators and disparity metrics in St. Louis City and County. Download the Report now for region-specific analysis of trends on topics such as Cancer, Childhood Asthma, Diabetes, Violence, and more.

Since its release, the Report was featured in several media outlets including a four-part series in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and a current fourteen-part series in the St. Louis Beacon, "Picture of Health."

The RHC is excited to share the Report and its findings with you. If you, your organization, community group, classroom, or business would like the RHC to attend a meeting and share more about the Report, email Rosie Stafford

"GATEWAY TO BETTER HEALTH" DEMONSTRATION PROVIDING COVERAGE TO OVER 20,000 ST. LOUISANS

The "Gateway to Better Health" pilot coverage model reaches its halfway point today. Launched on July 1, 2012, the program provides health care coverage to low-income, uninsured individuals in St. Louis City and County not eligible for Medicaid. "Gateway" currently covers over 20,000 St. Louisans and offers access to critical ambulatory health care services at community health centers and hospitals in the region.

Through this Demonstration, RHC will provide $105 million over 3 years in funds otherwise not available to the region and helped preserve medical homes for the uninsured with otherwise limited access to care. Since July 2012, Gateway provides over 3,500 primary care visits and 1,900 referrals to specialty care per month for the otherwise uninsured. This includes critical services otherwise unavailable such as radiology services, specialty care consultations and outpatient surgeries.

Our continued thanks to the team at the State of Missouri, especially our friends at the MO HeathNet and Family Support divisions, for all their extra efforts to make this model such a success for the region. All materials concerning the Demonstration are available for review at www.stlrhc.org. For more information, contact Angela Brown.

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH NETWORK RELEASES NEW COMMUNITY REPORT

In 2006, the State of Missouri, local mental health and substance abuse service providers, and community advocates partnered with the RHC to begin a Regional Behavioral Health Initiative. In 2010, the nationally-recognized initiative led to the formation of the Behavioral Health Network of Greater St. Louis. Since the BHN's formation in 2010, a coordinated, accessible, effective, and accountable system of behavioral healthcare is emerging as a result of collaboration among hundreds of committed people throughout the region.

Check out the BHN's newly released Community Report to learn more about the organization and its work in the last year.
