Especially for New Special Education Teachers! |
Welcome to the exciting and challenging world of education as a novice special educator! The focus of this special summer issue of T/TAC William and Mary Link Lines is to welcome the newest members of our profession with resources to support effective and innovative teaching practices.
This issue includes tips on getting ready for the beginning of the school year and ideas and resources for classroom management, parent communication, and special education instructional strategies as well as Virginia Department of Education resources.
Getting Started
September is a busy time of year for all teachers, especially newly hired special educators. There are so many things to get ready for the first day of school, ranging from reviewing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to designing bulletin boards.
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has published two comprehensive guides for new teachers to support your transition into the profession. Stepping Stones to Success provides new teachers with critical information and practical advice about teaching. Stepping Stones to Success II focuses on collaboration to support all students.
The resources listed below are designed to offer support and help ensure a successful start to the school year.
Have a great year, and welcome to the profession! |
