MNF - THANKS TO EVERYONE

Denver and Cincinnati did not disappoint during the last Monday Night Football game on the 28th. Denver scored 14 points in the 2nd half and won in overtime 20-17. The game, in addition to guest chefs (Cal State University Ph.D. Jenny O and friend JB) superb presentation of  the Alameda favorite....Garlic Noodles, afforded EYC members and guests a great way to close out EYC's Monday Night Football season.

Thanks to all of the "guest chefs" who stepped up this year to ensure another successful MNF season. Members and guests were treated to a broad array of entrée's prepared and presented by our talented membership. The cuisine ranged from hot dogs and tacos to chicken Marbella to Cajun, to beer brats, and on and on; a multi-faceted culinary experience.

Many thanks to our mixologists (Will, Dawn and Dayna) who volunteered to man the bar so everyone could enjoy their beverage of choice. Great job!

Finally, many thanks to Keith Rarick & Cathy Erbland for all of their help in managing all of the various guest chefs and contributors to this unique seasonal event. Some serious monies were raised for the club again this year and it could not have happened without their commitment. Thank you Keith & Cathy!

Next up.....
EYC SUPER BOWL PARTY!

Please plan on joining EYC members and guests on Sunday, February 7, 2016 for Super Bowl 50 and the annual EYC Appetizer Extravaganza & Chili Cook-off.

Please plan on joining EYC members and guests on Sunday, February 7, 2016 for
Super Bowl 50 and the annual EYC
Appetizer Extravaganza & Chili Cook-off.

EYC will once again provide the venue for all of the aspiring wannabe chefs who are not afraid of failure. Note: the competition is open to EYC members and guests. Every year the level and quality of competition improves and past success is NOT a guarantee of fame and fortune this year.

Appetizer Extravaganza:
Start planning now on your most creative and delicious appetizer entry. Entrants will be judged and prizes awarded for best presentation, originality, and flavor. Appetizers will be on display for party participants to sample and enjoy for the first half of the game.

Chili Cook-off:
Chili lovers take note. Just about everyone has a special recipe that sets their chili apart from the others. Now is the time to separate the men from the boys (so to speak) and prove it. Bring a crock pot full of your best for the enjoyment of all. Tasting will begin around half time and entrants will be judged and prizes awarded for originality and flavor.
Note: EYC will provide cheese, onions and tomatoes for garnishes and cornbread to sop up the juices.

Tentative Schedule of Events

  1. EYC Bar Opens at 11:00 AM, Super Bowl Starts  @3:30 P.M.
  2. Bring Appetizer entries to the club around 2:30 P. M.
  3. Bring Chili entries to the club by 4:00 P. M. to allow ample time to heat. Chili presentation limited to crock pot or similar size.
  4. Appetizers Served Until Half Time (Approximately 5:30 P. M.)
  5. Chili Presentation Begins at Half Time     (Approximately 5:30 P.M.)
  6. Awards will follow.

If you wish to enter one or both of this year's contest(s) please e-mail Sue Bateman @ msuebateman@me.com or Keith Rarick @ bayyachting@gmail.com This will help to ensure the club has the appropriate set ups. If you are looking for a very rewarding but totally thankless job, be a JUDGE and let Sue and/or Keith know ASAP.

2016 Cruise In/Out Calendar
Version 1.0

On December 5th, a number of EYC members convened in our Regatta room to begin planning next year's cruise in/out destinations. What follows is "version 1.0" of the 2016 calendar of planned destinations along with the named "volunteers" who have so graciously stepped up to lead their respective cruises.

Jan. 1: Cruise (one way or another) around the Island. (No Host) Land yachts, motorcycles, bicycles, UBER are all welcome. EYC members who elect to "cruise" around the island (in a boat) generally convene at the EYC docks around 9:00 AM on January 1. Launch time is at approximately 10:00 AM or thereabouts. Stops usually include Islander Yacht Club, Aeolian Yacht Club, Ballena Bay Yacht Club and eventually returning to EYC.

Feb. 6 - 7:  Cruise In To EYC - Mardi Gras Event(No Host) Details to follow.

March 12 - 13:  Coyote Point Yacht Club (San Mateo) - Kathryn & Charles Hodgkins with Hal and Laurie Lynam. Detail planning is in process, details to follow; if you would like additional info re. CPYC, visit their website at

April 16 - 17: South Beach Harbor (San Francisco) - Mark and Karen Brunelle. South Beach is a regular stop on the EYC cruising calendar and Mark and Karen are San Francisco experts. Detail planning is in process, for additional info, visit

May 20 - 22:  Bencia Yacht Club (Benicia) - Chuck and Edie Hero. Chuck & Edie will be leading this event for the 3rd year in a row!! Downtown Benicia is walking distance from the marina and this is always a fun event. Detail planning is in process, for additional info, visit

June 11 - 12: Golden Gate Yacht Club (San Francisco) - Charlie Thome. It has been some time since EYC has cruised out to GGYC so this should be a great event. Detail planning is in process, for additional info, visit

July 4: Cruise In To EYC - Fourth of July (No Host) Plan on joining your fellow EYC members for this annual cruise in to our club. There will be a plethora of events for young and old and entertainment as well. Detail planning is in process.

Aug 7 - 13 Delta Daze (Potato Slew in the Delta) - Neil & Carol Weinberg with Hal and Laurie Lynam. Perhaps the most laid back cruise out of the year. Anchorage is close to Willow Berm Marina and this is one of the most popular destinations year-after-year.

Sept 2 - 5 Half Moon Bay (& Half Moon Bay Yacht Club) - Ed Lecco & Bill Nork. Half Moon Bay is another regular destination for EYC members and it's always a blast. The Yacht Club typically has a number of events scheduled for the weekend and the EYC folks are always invited to participate. For additional info, visit

Sept 3 - 9 San Juan Island Cruise Out (Bellingham, WA) David Dury. The planning is well underway with six yachts currently chartered (20+ EYC Members) and another three currently being considered. For additional information regarding this cruise, please email David at

Oct 8  - 9:  Marin Yacht Club Cruise - (San Rafael)- Jim & Jenn Vickers. Marin Yacht Club was on the 2015 calendar and they received rave reviews; little surprise that we will be visiting them again this year. For additional info, please visit

Nov. ?????? Nothing Scheduled, Depends on Weather Forecasts

You may note that, in addition to the destinations shown above, there will likely be several "flash cruises" announced from time-to-time. Look for more information in future Signal Flag newsletters.
If you would like to be added to the 2016 Cruising Fleet email list, send an email with your contact info to Hal Lynam (Hal and Laurie Lynam are the Cruise Captains for 2016). Hal's email address:

Better yet, if you are interested in participating, have a suggested destination, or are interested in leading a cruise, make sure you let Hal know. The Cruising Calendar is a fluid document and we are always eager to add additional destinations.
