January 2013 Issue
As we welcome our 10th President, Dr. Troy Hammond and his family to our ever-growing North Central College family, I asked if he would be willing to write the introduction to the January Alumni E-Newsletter. A new year, a new era for our alma mater and I can't wait for you to meet him!

Greetings!

January 1 marked the beginning of a new era for North Central College and a wonderful, exciting transition for me. I'm thrilled to be at North Central as its 10th president and enthusiastic about the opportunities ahead. One of my goals this year will be to meet as many alumni as possible at events both on campus and around the country. (You can check the alumni website for more information.)

My family and I already enjoyed attending the 29th Annual Alumni Track Meet and alumni events at both the Wheaton and Augustana basketball games. Since being selected as President, we have met more than 400 alumni!

My goal in meeting you is to communicate how vital your engagement in North Central College is to our success. That engagement can take many forms, including attending events on campus, mentoring our students, hiring our graduates and supporting our plans for a new Science Center. Our future depends on our alumni family! I hope we meet in person and I encourage you to connect with your alma mater this year.

Sincerely,

Dr. Troy D. Hammond

President, North Central College

ISCPA'S CareerFest 2013

Career Development is excited to inform you that the ISCPA consortium career fair will be held on our campus, this year, at the Res/Rec on Friday February 1st. North Central is one of the 25 member institutions who sponsor this event which draws employers who might not normally visit one of our campuses individually. Right now we are at almost 50 employers and hope to expand that list - some of those employers include: Navistar, State Farm, Calamos Investments, Walgreens, Nicor and Sikich LLP.

This event is open to alumni. To participate, you can register in person at the Career Development Office (Stadium, 235). The cost is $10 if registered before January 25, or $20 at the door. Upload your resume on the ISCPA Online Career Center by clicking here. (Your resume will need to be approved through the system before being activated and viewable by employers.)

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with opportunities to meet representatives at their tables as well as potentially interview that same day!

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact Career Development at 630-637-5141.

Can you spot this Cardinal?

Ever wonder what happens to all those photos taken at big events? Well... we did, so we ventured over to Osterle Library to visit Kim Butler, North Central's Archivist, to see what exactly has happened to all those priceless pictures. Hundreds of photos are unidentified, and we thought we could use our Alumni Family to help fill in the gaps! Here is the link to the Flickr Photo Stream with photos that need identification. Browse through the pictures, spot a familiar face and send an email indicating the number of the photo and the person in it to Nickie Kossakowski, Alumni Relations Officer at nlkossakowski@noctrl.edu and there you have it! You've just helped piece together a little mystery of the school we love!

Notice anyone? This might be a possible Biology Trip back in 1968...

Something new on campus

When you come back to visit campus and stop by Old Main (to visit the Alumni Office, of course!),  you might notice something new. As a part of an ongoing effort to support sustainability values and actions into all aspects of campus life, North Central College has installed its first electric vehicle charging station, making it easier for members of the campus community to own and use electric cars.

The electric vehicle charging station is ready to use and situated on the sidewalk in the Old Main parking lot off Loomis. The station can charge two vehicles simultaneously in two adjacent parking spaces and may be used free of charge by any North Central student, faculty, staff or campus visitor.

In Spring 2013, two additional parking spaces will be added to the Goldspohn parking lot to offset the spaces at Old Main. This project was made possible through a generous donation and rebate from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. For more information, please feel free to contact Brittany Graham, Sustainability Coordinator, at
bdgraham@noctrl.edu or 630-637-5623
