Welcome, Colleen!
Colleen Lane has joined Badger Childhood Cancer Network as our new Program Coordinator. She worked previously at the Red Cross, helping coordinate CPR training and credentials for instructors all around the state. Colleen is in charge of the BCCN Hero Bead program, our library, the New Diagnosis Bags and Ashley's Med Kits. She will assist our Party Committee to organize our fun quarterly parties, and she coordinates our volunteers. She will work with AFCH social workers to provide direct assistance to on-treatment families who need help with urgent bills, groceries and transportation. Colleen is the mom of a tween and a teen, and enjoys watching their sporting and music events, walking with her recently adopted Golden Retriever, and weekend getaways with her family. And coffee. Colleen likes coffee :-)

Holiday Party 2012
Amelia, Mommy and Daddy at the Holiday Party (taking a little break from showing leukemia the door)
Over 200 people enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Madison Children's Museum for our Holiday Party on December 16th. Santa had gifts for all the kids and teens, and guests explored all the amazing exhibits. We danced to fun music from Blackmoon Entertainment's DJ, ate yummy treats and made crafts. A great corps of busy, fun volunteers helped us have an extra-special evening! Many thanks to Madison's nationally top-rated Children's Museum for their generous sponsorship of this memorable event. Lots more photos on the BCCN web site. |

Adopt-A-Family Donors
Brought Lots of Joy For The Holidays
Generous donors stepped forward in November and December to 'adopt' 29 families of kids on treatment for cancer and blood disorders, providing gifts from the children's wish lists plus gas and grocery cards. We were able to stretch our Holiday Assistance budget many times further than we could otherwise have afforded because of these wonderful donations! In total, we distributed over $13,500 in assistance among the 29 families to make their holidays brighter. We give our deepest thanks to these wonderful people: St. Maria Goretti Parish Giving Tree (gas & grocery cards) AFCH P4 Staff Toy Drive Rome Corners Intermediate School Staff, Oregon (adopted 8 families)

Facebook Groups for Parents
BCCN is starting private, invitation only Facebook groups for parents who would like to have a chance to share information and support and get to know each other outside our monthly support groups. You can join a group for parents of young people on treatment for leukemia or lymphoma, a group for parents of kids with brain and central nervous system cancers, or a group for parents of kids with solid tumor cancers. Sickle Cell families have an invitation only group that has been active for quite a while that others can join, as well. If you would like to join any of these groups, please send an email to [email protected] and include the name you use on Facebook (or a link to your Facebook profile) and the name of the group you would like to join. We'll make a friend request to you and invite you to join. Once you are a member of the group, you will be able to invite other parents of kids with a same or similar diagnosis to join the group. Your membership in a private Facebook group and the comments you make there will not be seen by anyone who is not a member of the group, and your membership in the group can't be seen by anyone who reads your Facebook wall.
Whether you choose to join a group or not, we hope you will follow our Badger Childhood Cancer Network Facebook Page. We post articles, information on advocacy and legal issues, photos of our events, donor thank yous and information about camps, scholarships, educational seminars, and much more.
