New Website for Honda
Collision.Honda.com
American Honda has launched a new website designed to provide Honda owners with information they need when making decisions regarding collision repair. The website offers videos regarding wheel replacement and airbags, Honda position statements and information about collision parts and insurance.
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) this year released a mobile app to help guide drivers on what information they should disclose after an accident; the association says the new Wreck-Check app will help prevent drivers from giving away too much personal information - such as home address, phone number or driver's license number - that could lead to identity theft. The last thing you're probably thinking about following a car accident is protecting your privacy.

Buyer Beware...
Because of the devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy thousands of flood-damaged vehicles could inundate the used car market. The National Automobile Dealers Association put out a statement estimating that 200,000 or more flooded cars could be resold.
A flood-damaged car can be a serious problem. Once a vehicle is dried out, the damage may not be immediately apparent, so the car can often be sold to an unsuspecting buyer. Beneath the surface, the water can damage computers that control everything from the gas pedal to the entertainment system. Saltwater, like that from Sandy's storm surge, is especially harmful, causing corrosion in electrical and mechanical parts that can pose problems for years.
Solution: Have a Pre-purchase inspection prior to purchasing a used vehicle. Our charge is $95 and takes about one hour. We found several flooded vehicles in our area after Hurricane Katrina. Potentially, we could see flood-damaged vehicles from Superstorm Sandy. |

Manufacturer Recalls
Toyota After the 7.43 million vehicles recalled in October over faulty window switches that can cause fires, it appears the Japanese car company has learned from its mistakes. Toyota is becoming quicker and more transparent about defects.
"We are not proud of recalls, but there is nothing wrong with recalls per se. Hiding anything would be the problem," Shigeru Hayakawa, a senior executive, told the Associated Press. "We are dealing with problems more expediently."

EPA finds Hyundai and Kia Overstated Gas Mileage
Hyundai and Kia overstated the gas mileage on 900,000 vehicles in the past three years. A discovery that could result in sanctions from the US government and millions of dollars in payments to car owners.
The inflated figures were uncovered by the EPA in an audit of gas mileage tests by the two South Korean automakers. The agency, which monitors fuel economy said it is investigating how the companies came up with their numbers.
The EPA found inflated gas mileage on 13 models from 2001 through 2013 model years, including Hyundai's Atlanta and Tucson and Kia's Sportage and Rio. The window sticker mileages were overstated on about one-third of the cars sold by the companies during the three years. Hyundai and Kia will have to knock one or two miles per gallon off the vehicle stickers of most of their models. Some models will lose three or four miles per gallon.
Company executives apologized for the discrepancies and promised to compensate customers because they are using more gasoline than expected. They stated the higher mileage figures were unintentional, caused by errors in following EPA mileage test procedures. Customer payments are likely to cost Hyundai and Kia millions of dollars.
Intentional or not, overstating the mileage could cut into Hyundai and Kia sales, especially with people who are deciding between brands and ready to buy soon. Automakers do their own mileage tests, following procedures set by the EPA and the agency enforces accuracy by auditing about 15 percent of vehicles annually. Other automakers are watching the EPA's action against Hyundai and Kia. |

Will E15 Fuel Damage your Car?
The American Automobile Association, AAA is asking the EPA to suspend sales of E15 gasoline because a survey of its members found that 95 percent of them do not know what it is and could unknowingly damage their cars as a result.
E15, a mix of 85 percent gasoline and 15 percent ethanol, was recently approved for sale by the EPA as a way to increase the use of renewable fuels, but it comes with a caveat.
The E15 can be used only by cars and light trucks from the 2001 model year and later, because it could have an adverse affect on the engines and emissions systems of older vehicles. Other problems could include engine damage caused by the corrosive ethanol, even in the late model cars that the EPA says are good to go.
Only flex-fuel vehicles designed to burn fuel blends that contain up to 85 percent ethanol are specifically approved by their manufacturers to use E15. Many automakers including Toyota have already said that their warranties will not cover E15 related damage. |
