Contribute to a WHO survey for junior doctors and medical students
Contribute to a WHO survey for junior doctors and medical students by filling out the questionnaire that is available at http://tinyurl.com/nl9wqzr. If you are a junior doctor or medical student, fill out the survey yourself, or else share the link to the survey via your social networks or marketing channels.
The survey is part of a WHO project on "eHealth and eLearning as a way to transform medical education in order to achieve Universal Health Coverage". The project will be presented at Med-e-Tel 2014 in the EJD session (on April 11th, 11h00-13h00), co-chaired by European Junior Doctors (EJD). The final results will be published in cooperation with WHO and EJD.
EJD also initiated its own series of surveys on eHealth. The first of these surveys has been presented last year at Med-e-Tel 2013 (see here), showing the fundamental role that the literature confers to new generations (junior doctors and medical students) in spreading eHealth knowledge and contributing to the development of eHealth systems.
This year, the EJD eHealth WG, in collaboration with EMSA (European Medical Students Association) eHealth WG, have designed a second eHealth survey with focus on usability, medical education and medical career. This survey will be presented at Med-e-Tel 2014 in the plenary session on the morning of Thursday April 10th.
For more information, to express your interest in joining the EJD session at Med-e-Tel, or to schedule an appointment at Med-e-Tel with representatives of this group, contact Dr. Marco Capizzi at [email protected].

Launch of an unprecedented collaborative platform for midwives worldwide
In partnership with the International Confederation of Midwives, The Sanofi Espoir Foundation launches the platform "Connecting Midwives", thus further endorsing its commitment to combat maternal and newborn mortality across the world.
This collaborative platform is unique and innovative, and it will be nourished by midwives from around the world. This is a dedicated space where midwives can trade experiences and share ideas, projects and innovations. "We would like to highlight actions set up by midwives inside their community and enhance the key role they play on a daily basis to further education and prevention, and to save lives," emphasized Caty Forget, Managing Director at the Sanofi Espoir Foundation. "This sharing space will help enhance their professional practice and their networks, especially those midwives working in rural and often secluded areas."
Each year, approximately 300,000 women die during pregnancy, and childbirth around the world. The risk of death for African women is 100 times higher than for women in developed countries. Most of these deaths could be averted if women, often poor and isolated, had access to better trained, qualified, well equipped and authorized midwives in their locality. Hence the willingness of the Sanofi Espoir Foundation to focus on this domain, by way of long-term programs.
Some of the programs have started in the second half of 2013 in the following countries: Ethiopia, Tanzania, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Mexico, and will help to educate and train 4,200 midwives by 2015.
Hear more about this in the "Women, eHealth and Telemedicine at all Ages of Life" session at Med-e-Tel 2014 and meet with Connecting Midwives/Sanofi Espoir representatives.

Orange Healthcare to deploy region-wide telemedicine platform in Aquitaine
Orange Healthcare has been selected by the Agence Rgionale de Sant (ARS - Regional Health Agency) of the Aquitaine region (France) and the healthcare cooperation group Tlsant Aquitaine (TSA) to develop a regional telemedicine platform.
The solution will enable remote diagnoses and consultations, and will also include tele-stroke services, teleconsultations from care homes and remote consultations with radiology specialists. The service will be used by healthcare facilities (healthcare establishments, medico-social centres, etc) across the Aquitaine region.
The telemedicine platform is to include data hosting as well as hosted healthcare applications such as radiology images, archiving and the issuing of prescriptions. The solution is based on Orange's Flexible Computing Sant, a highly secure private network, or VPN, to connect healthcare establishments that subscribe to the service. TSA is responsible for the overall leadership and operational objectives of the programme, and the Fond d'Investissement Rgional (FIR - Regional Investment Fund) is providing programme financing in addition to contributing start-up funds to help participating healthcare establishments during project take-off.

Agence eSant trusts in EBRC TrustedCloudEurope to safeguard health data
In January 2014, all citizens registered at the Luxembourg National Health Fund (Luxembourg residents or frontier workers) will have access to their "Healthcare Shared File" (Dossier de Soins Partag - DSP), for which they will be owners and legally the only ones able to give access to the health professionals.

EBRC manages the project and the platform, ensuring its availability and security. The project is operated in full ICT Managed Services, risk is thus supported by EBRC.
"EBRC is a natural choice as partner in this project. European Hospital Survey: benchmarking deployment of eHealth services
A survey carried out in about 1,800 hospitals in the 28 EU countries plus Iceland and Norway measures the level of deployment and take-up of ICT and eHealth applications in acute care hospitals in Europe.
The survey, carried out by PwC EU Services in cooperation with Global Data Collection Company, covered:
- ICT Infrastructure
- ICT Applications
- Health Information Exchange
- Security and Privacy
Based on the survey results, the Joint Research Centre IPTS developed two composite indicators on eHealth deployment and eHealth availability & use and made a comparison with a previous survey carried out in 2010. The results suggest that the deployment of eHealth in European acute care hospitals has increased over the period 2010-2013 (from an average of 0.39 to 0.42 in a range of 0 to 1).
Moreover, the gap between best performers (mostly Nordic countries) and less advanced countries (mostly Eastern European and Greece) in hospital eHealth deployment has narrowed. Advanced eHealth functionalities are not widely used across hospitals, however, when available, they are quite popular. For example, digital archiving of radiology images is available in just 53% of EU hospitals, but in almost all of these (92%) it is fully used.
The results also suggest that connectivity is still lagging behind, as most of the hospitals do not share electronically medical information that they produce/store in this format. Finally, the vast majority of hospitals do not allow patients to access their complete health records online thus preventing more involvement in their healthcare.
Top performing countries for eHealth deployment among hospitals are Denmark (66%), Estonia (63%), Sweden and Finland (both 62%).
Meet PwC representatives on the Luxembourg pavilion at Med-e-Tel 2014.
