"Motherhood: All love begins and ends there." said 19th Century English poet and playwright Robert Browning. A mothers' love touches so many facets of life! As Mom-mentum nears the 40th anniversary of the opening of our first Mothers' Center, we are reminded of how much mothers' lives have changed through the decades. Yet one thing that hasn't altered is our love for our children. In this edition of our Mom-mentum eNews we celebrate the power of our love with articles meant to inspire, support and share other mothers' incredible voices.

This Valentine's Day, may love continue to fill your home and heart.

Sincerely,

Alison LaFerlita,

Executive Director

The crazy, heart-stopping love we feel for our children runs deep through each of us. Valentine's Day marks February as the month of love. With that in mind, we couldn't help but begin today's issue with this powerful article capturing the essence of motherly love -- a love that both touches our children and also firmly unites us a moms.

FINDING SUPPORT THROUGH MOTHERHOOD

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." These words (from Helen Keller) ring undoubtedly clear when applied to motherhood. We recently read this article of a mother's belated experience finding support through a moms' group, confirming what we already knew true: all mothers need access to a Mothers' Center Group. What makes our discussion groups so unique? Find out by taking part in an upcoming informational webinar. Discover how simple it is to build support! Get more information & register NOW.

THE ECONOMIC BENEFITS OF PAID PARENTAL LEAVE

What are the true economic effects of paid leave? Real-life experiments are underway in three states that already have operational paid leave programs: California, New Jersey and Rhode Island. Their experiences -- particularly California's, where the policy is a decade old -- offer some answers. Hear for yourself and build a better understanding via this New York Times article.

IS "MOM" A DIRTY WORD?

Mothers are everywhere in society, and anything that affects them-affects their families, the economy, and our future. Inspired by a documentary struggling to complete production, Valerie Young -- Mom-mentum's public policy analyst -- recently posed this compelling question on our Woman in Washington blog.
