January, 2015

Greetings!

If 2014 is to be remembered as our year of change, than 2015 most certainly will be remembered as our year of growth. As the Mom-mentum staff enters into the new year, we are so excited about what's to come!

For our members personally, we are continuing to increase our benefits and build Mothers' Center Groups. Professionally, we are thrilled to invite you again to our annual Women's Leadership Conference while taking large strides towards the development of our Return-to-work Initiative after receiving additional grant funding from PSEG. Likewise, we will continue to expand and build our public policy initiatives to educate our membership, policy makers and others on issues pertinent to women.

Cheers to 2015 as a year of growth-for women and mothers everywhere!

Sincerely,

Alison LaFerlita,

Executive Director

When Your Child Says He Doesn't Love You

Our kids can be honest to a fault... but when a busy, chaotic time sweeps over a family, often as parents we can't miss what might be clearly in front of our face. This deeply honest article from Amanda via Bonbon Break shares one mother's story of her own lost focus and the day she found it again. Definitely worth a read!

Women's Leadership Conference Builds Inspiration through Roundtable Discussions

In 2014, Mom-mentum made tremendous strides launching our first Women's Leadership Conference. We enthusiastically welcomed a world-renowned keynote speaker, included workshops on communication, diversity, financial health, and leadership, and highlighted a panel of amazing women leaders who shared with us their own successes and challenges.

To help prepare for next year's conference, we are gathering some of Long Island's top professional women to discuss their ideas on women's leadership development and ways we can enhance their personal and professional lives. This is just one of many ways we plan to make Achieving Extraordinary 2015 an amazing opportunity for women.

Married Moms: Do You Work?

Last week, Mom-mentum Public Policy Analyst Valerie Young was featured on Blogher for a post she wrote reflecting on current research of married mothers in the workforce. The article addresses some vital questions and statistics, however just as interesting are some of the comments readers left about why they did or did not leave the workforce after becoming a Mother. Read the comments and then visit her follow-up post on our Mom-mentum Blog to fully capture the conversation.
