Public Policies and the Lives of Women Valerie Young Visits Toledo, Ohio Mom-mentum's Public Policy Analyst Valerie Young traveled to Toledo, Ohio on October 15th - 16th to help connect the dots between public policies and lives of mothers. The conversation was FREE, open to the public and focused on why mothers should be more involved as policy advocates and which policies most impact us as women. Valerie gave a formal evening presentation at Lourdes University (pictured to right) and continued the conversation the next day during a discussion-based gathering with Mothers' Center of Greater Toledo members.  The iconic 1950s family consisting of the breadwinner father going off to work and caregiving mother keeping up the homefront, has been described by economists as the most efficient family structure. Everyone has a distinct job to do in their "separate spheres" of public and private life. In the 1950s, children may have been raised in such "typical" families.
