It's already been a long, cold winter. In the midst of school closings, schedule disruptions and cabin fever, we hope we can provide a little respite. Spring is coming! Best wishes,

 Mothers' Center in the Spotlight:
Mothers' Center of Central New Jersey
Offering daytime and evening discussion groups, book clubs, mom and baby/toddler playgroups, fitness groups as well as other special events throughout the year - the Mothers' Center of Central New Jersey offers a plethora of activities focused on friendship, education, outreach and parental support. To help sustain all these amazing resources, each year the group organizes an annual Miles with Moms 5k Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run.
Beyond funding their groups' operating expenses, the goal of this community-wide event is to raise awareness of the Mothers' Center and help them continue offering affordable membership and scholarships so any mom can benefit from their support. Now on its third year, the event (taking place May 3rd) coincides with our own NAMC Mile for Mothers 5k/Run and Walk.
Join us each month as we highlight different local Mothers' Center Groups across the nation. Don't have a Mothers' Center Group near you? Learn more about starting a local Mothers' Center Group by downloading our New Group Start-up Guide.

Don't Let the Winter Blues Get Your Family Down
It seems no matter what part of the country you live in, you and your family have most likely been hit hard with old man winter. Snow and ice have hit Texas, Georgia and the Carolinas. And if you live further north where snow is to be expected, you've probably seen enough snow this winter (which is not over yet) for three or four average winters combined!
While some people enjoy the snow, and it can be pretty, it has caused tremendous disruptions in school schedules - and that means added stress for parents. Can you relate to this Mothers Central blog post, "It Takes a Village to Beat a Vortex"? Since we can't wish winter away, we thought we would offer a few ideas on how to make those snow days a little more enjoyable for everyone. Check out this article by Parents' Choice - "Cures for Cabin Fever." We especially like the suggestion to get kids involved in household chores - may as well put them to work while their home. Arts and crafts can be a great way to keep them engaged in something fun while mom or dad gets some work done. How are you making the best of these crazy winter days with your family? We'd love to hear from you! |
Why You Should Care About Politics
NAMC's Advocacy Coordinator, Valerie Young, understands how public policy decisions impact mothers and their families. Since 2008, she has been writing the Your (Wo)man in Washington blog to help others learn and understand what we can do to effect positive change. Valerie is now also a reporter for The Shriver Report.
We invite you to take a look at this post, Why You Should Care About Politics. Each of us has a voice, but unless we make it and the needs of our families heard in Washington, we will continue to see stories like the one Valerie writes about.
