NAMC Membership Featured Member Benefit: Add Your Voice to Public Policy Discussions
Our Advocacy Coordinator, Valerie Young, represents the NAMC and its members in Washington, D.C. so we can keep you abreast of what's happening in public policy discussions. You can stay up-to-date with how members of Congress are handling legislation impacting your family, economic security, and the many needless frustrations and inequities family caregivers encounter by:
- Reading our twice monthly Advocacy Edition of the NAMC eNews.
- Following Your (Wo)Man in Washington's weekly blog, daily FaceBook and Twitter updates.
Every NAMC member has a voice in congressional briefing rooms, think tank conferences, and coalition efforts with like-minded advocates pushing for those of us who care for others, yet are often overlooked and underestimated. We make it easy for you to make your voice heard by your Senators and Representatives by providing online guidelines. You can join the conversation by commenting on our posts or contacting Valerie to have your concerns conveyed right on Capitol Hill. When you become an NAMC member, your voice counts along with hundreds of other NAMC members.

Mothers' Center in the Spotlight Mothers' Center of Central New Jersey
Pictured above are members of the Mothers' Center of Central New Jersey during an annual holiday party at their local community center. During the event, the group provided games, crafts, snacks, music, holiday story telling, and most importantly, lots of fun for both the children and the mothers.
Building a social network for our children and ourselves is an important way to help break the isolation sometimes felt as a new parent. How much importance did you place on maintaining and finding friendships when you first became a mother? Let us know by leaving a comment on the Mothers Central Blog post: Learning to Laugh Again - Finding Support through Friendship.
Join us each month as we highlight a different local Mothers' Center across the nation. Don't have a Mothers' Center near you? Learn more about starting a local Mothers' Center group by downloading our New Center Start-up Guide.

One Billion Rising to End Violence Against Women Fifteen years ago Eve Ensler, the creator of The Vagina Monologues, started a global movement to end violence against women worldwide. Ms. Ensler states that "Today 1 out of 3 women in the world -- more than 1 billion women -- will be raped or beaten." The One Billion Rising Valentine's Day campaign centers on dancing and raising awareness. They invite ONE BILLION women and those who love them to WALK OUT, DANCE, RISE UP, and DEMAND an end to this violence by demonstrating our collective strength, numbers and solidarity across borders. This action is getting so much attention because of recent examples of violence against women and girls worldwide that is waking up people, especially women, to its pervasiveness and that we need to address the issue now. To learn more and join in the fight against violence toward women, visit onebillionrising.org.
