How Field Trips Benefit Childhood Learning
The value of interactive experiences
Field trips are an exciting way for children to immerse themselves in education. The world suddenly makes more sense when connecting classroom lessons with real-life experiences. LVCC enriched learning for over 400 local preschoolers and school-age children by filling the summer with weekly excursions. The trips ranged from park outings to experiencing live theatre at the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. After every adventure, the children returned home a little more engaged and curious about how the world works. International Literacy Day September 8, 2015
According to the World Literacy Foundation, approximately 775 million people worldwide lack the basic reading and writing skills to perform daily tasks.
The United Nations designated September 8th as International Literacy Day to unite communities around the world in the hopes of one day eradicating ongoing illiteracy. Lehigh Valley Children's Centers has joined the the quest to give our students a fundamental human right - to read, write, and have access to quality education.
LVCC at Monocacy Manor will celebrate by playing an interactive alphabet game with the preschoolers using recycled milk caps. Each cap has a letter, shape, or number on it. Children identify the letters they know, match the letters in their name, and categorize the remaining caps into three sets by letter, shape, or number.
Check with your child's center for the literacy activities that will be happening on September 8th.
