October is Pennsylvania's
Promise for Children Month
Every day children develop new skills, learning information about the world around them. Parents and teachers play an integral part in helping children reach for the stars. Celebrate your child's successes during Pennsylvania's Promise for Children Month.
- Celebrate a child's promise by sharing what they want to be when they grow up, and what makes them special.
- Make a promise to help young children learn and grow.
- Thank someone for helping young children reach their promise.
If you receive a thank you card, send a thank you card to someone else and/or make a new promise for Pennsylvania's young children! Share your promise on Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #PAPromise.

A Tradition of Caring
After 34 years of working in early education and child care with LVCC, Patti Harper still greets the families at her center with a sincere smile on her face, ready to take on the challenges of the day.
"Over the years, children have inspired me not to take life too seriously," remarked the LVCC at St. Luke's center director.
Patti has always been drawn to the energy and honesty of children. At an early age, she realized that she wanted to help children turn those endearing qualities into a love of learning. So, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education/Early Childhood Education from Kutztown University and began her lifelong career.
Patti has worked with every age group from infants to school-age. She first started at LVCC as an assistant teacher in the infant and toddler classroom. She also worked for many years in LVCC's administration before returning to direct services as center director.
When her busy schedule allows, Patti enjoys spending a little time in each classroom. A good day is when her center is filled with the voices of happy, engaged children and enthusiastic, caring teachers. The experienced center director feels a sense of accomplishment watching happy children and parents reunite at the end of the day.
In celebration of Pennsylvania's Promise for Children Month, we asked Patti what promise she would make for the children in her care.
"I promise I will try to respect each of them for the individuals that they are, and help to encourage their sense of wonder," Patti answered.

This Week at LVCC:
Fall Children's Festival Brings Large Crowd
LVCC's Campus Center, which has been in operation since 1976, held its first fall festival for the south side Bethlehem community nearly 30 years ago. In the early years, parents of enrolled children and LVCC staff planned and operated the activities. Families still look forward to the event every year. Read on...
