We would like to thank all Kiwanians and guests in attendance at the 2015 Mid-Year Conferences and the District's 100th Anniversary Celebration events! Without your participation, these conferences and events would not have been successful! We would especially like to thank Mid-Year South Chairmen John and Carole Coley, Mid-Year North Chairman Valarie Brown-Klingelhoefer, 100th Anniversary Chairman Mike Fields, their committee members and volunteers, TraK presenters and managers, sponsors, exhibitors, silent auction donors and bidders, Trustees, Lt. Governors and Cabinet members for all of their efforts!

Now we have Kiwanis One Day, International Convention and District Convention to look forward to and we hope you will be a part of these events as well!

Does Your Club Need to Pay Sales Tax?
Kiwanis clubs are exempt from income tax under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code; however, this is not an exemption from collecting and paying sales tax when items subject to sales tax are sold. If a Kiwanis club sells items which are subject to sales tax, the club must register with the Board of Equalization (in California) and pay the tax. We have heard of at least one Kiwanis club which the Board of Equalization pursued for sales at a pancake breakfast.
Learn more about Sales and Use Tax for nonprofit organizations.

Also, the tax exemption in California for purchasing children's clothes has lapsed. Efforts are being made to reinstate this exemption that Kiwanians originally started. Contact your local government representative or Lt. Governor Al Smith for more information on how to lead this effort.

Kiwanis One Day - April 11, 2015
Each year, Kiwanis clubs around the world join in a day of service. It's a global effort, but it's made of personal commitments.

Have you identified your project yet? If not, contact another club in your division and join them. Learn the tools you need for a fun, productive day of service.

If you do have a project, invite other clubs from your Division. Let's see how many projects can have at least 100 volunteers as we continue to celebrate our 100th birthday with service...and show our communities what Kiwanis is all about. And remember your SLP members! This is also a great opportunity to show your friends, neighbors, and city officials (potential members) that we do more than attend meetings - we serve.

Share your Kiwanis One Day video and enter to win a GoPro camera!

Recognizing  our Future Leaders

Make plans now to present the Hope of America Award  to deserving students in your community. The Hope of America award - which recognizes and encourages students who have demonstrated academic accomplishments, leadership and good character - has been providing clubs with the opportunity to recognize student leaders for more than 30 years. And with the end of the school year quickly approaching, now is the best time to select and recognize these future leaders!

Matching Dunlaps Available

For a limited time, the Foundation is offering matching Dunlap funds benefiting our Pediatric Trauma Program. Thanks to the hard work and generosity of our Circle K, KIWIN'S and Key Club members, an individual or Kiwanis club may be recognized with a new Dunlap or upgraded to the next level with a $500 contribution. The remaining $500 will be "matched" by funds raised from our Service Leadership Programs (SLP) members for our Pediatric Trauma Program.

Host a Safety Fair to Promote PTP

Is your Kiwanis or Service Leadership Club thinking about hosting a Safety Fair? Did you know the Foundation offers many safety-related items at a subsidized cost to our Kiwanis Family? For example, our safety bears (now half off!) and our bike helmets are the perfect incentive item to give to children. Review our PTP resources for project ideas, safety items and grant opportunities from the Foundation.

You're Invited!

We invite you to attend a District Board Meeting and/or a Foundation Board Meeting and see first-hand the work our District Trustees and Foundation Directors accomplish.
