Letter from Our Principal
by Principal F.J. "Harvey" Oaxaca
Spring is here and there is so much happening in the Husky Nation! Spring brings with it a renewed sense of who we are as a school community beginning with PTA's Multicultural Week. We are proud of our multicultural roots here at Horace Mann and it is great that so many voices, nations, and cultures create a unique and global Husky Nation. The phrase "I am HM!" takes on new meaning here and I am proud to lead such a diverse school.

April also brings the opportunity for our 3rd-8th graders to show our District and the State of California just how much they know through the CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Progress and Performance). Under the larger umbrella of CAASPP, there are a variety of assessments. The Smarter Balance (SBAC) Assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics are given online; and the California Science Test (CST) is given via paper/pencil. All students in 3rd-8th grade take the SBAC Assessments; and students in 5th and 8th take the CST. Click here for a calendar of the testing schedule.
For everyone, ALL Parents and Students are invited to watch a World Music (drumming) show and Brazil Capoeira Performance on Wednesday, April 6 at 8:30am in the Auditorium.

For parents, we invite you to share your culture ON YOUR REGIONAL DAY by choosing any of the following:

  • Bring Cultural Books and Flags for country displays.  *write your name on the items.
  • Volunteer

HUSKY FUN FACTS
DNA found on the ancient bone of an Arctic Wolf suggests that Huskies are one of the oldest of dog breeds. They could possibly date back to around 27,000 years ago.
