"Beyond Measure" Movie Screening

 

Continuing last month's discussion and viewing of "Race to Nowhere", we will be showing the follow-up film "Beyond Measure" on Wednesday, February 10th at 7:00pm. Horace Mann invites all interested parties to come to this adult-only event. There will be a panel discussion afterwards with Harvey Oaxaca, David Foldvary, Christian Fuhrer (BV Principal), and Shelanee Fernando (HM Counselor). 8th Grade Corner
Spring is very busy for our graduates and families. We have made some updates to the  Important Dates for the 8th grade graduates. There are a few important upcoming events for transition into high school, including:
 
1. PTSA/PTA Forum for incoming 9th grade parents on Wednesday, February 3rd from 9:30-11:30am at the EDC on BHHS campus 
 
2. BHHS Open House for Incoming 9th grade Students & Parents Tour (Freshman Orientation) on Thursday, March 31st at 5:15pm at the BHHS Swim Gym  
 
In addition, here is a flyer on how to purchase recognition ads in the yearbook for your graduates. The deadline for submission of all necessary paperwork is Monday, February 15th. This is a great way to honor your graduate! 

Restaurant Day

Sharing on Valentine's Day
Valentine grams will be on sale after school Monday, February 1st through Thursday, February 11th with delivery on Friday, February 12th.

They are $1 each or to buy them for the whole class, the pricing is $15/class for K-4 grades and $20/class for 5-8 grades.

The selection and vetting process for next year's 2016-2017 PTA Executive Board is currently underway. If you are interested in being on the board in some capacity or know someone else eager to help, please contact our PTA Parliamentarian, Jena Frankel, at [email protected] or any current member of the Executive Board.
TypingBoost Classes
For interested middle school students, TypingBoost classes are open for registration and start Monday, February 22nd from 3:30-4:30. Eight classes will be offered between then and April 18th, with no class on March 21st.
 
There is the option of having an elementary class for 3rd-5th graders on Fridays from 3:15-4:15. Classes would be from February 26th through April 29th, with no class on March 25th or April 22nd. If this elementary class option interests you, please contact Julie Hershkowitz at [email protected]
Rainy Day Movie Box
Acting on a suggestion from two 4th graders, there is now a Rainy Day Movie Box available for donations in the office! Please consider donating any new or used movies for students to watch during lunch on rainy days. If you have any movies that are appropriate for all ages, please drop them in the Movie Box in the office.

A big congratulations to Ms. Arth's 2nd grade class for surpassing the 500 mark in Box Tops for Education. Keep on collecting and turning in those labels, everyone!

In the Community
Beverly Hills Academic Tutoring Program
Registration is open for the winter and spring sessions of tutoring!  It is a one-on-one after school program that meets Tuesdays at the Horace Mann cafeteria; we work on all subjects as well as organizational skills and study skills.
