Letter from Our Principal
by Mr. Harvey Oaxaca, Principal

What a wonderful semester so far here at Horace Mann. We are having a great time and our students are learning more than ever. Thank you to each of you who participated in some way in our Healthy Choices Week this past week. It is always important to focus on how we can make good, healthy choices for ourselves both now and in the future. As we move through the year, we will continue to focus on caring for ourselves and for others which is a staple of the "Beverly Hills Way."

Husky Haunt
We need your help as volunteers to run a booth, games, rides, food, etc. Please consider signing up for one of the shifts, or sign up with a friend and get to visit too. Click here for the link to sign up. We cannot run the carnival without you.

Questions or concerns? Please contact Peter Gabayan at peter@realestatepeter.com

CANDY SPLIT
Do you have too much candy at home after Halloween? As part of our Citizenship and Service Learning curriculum, students are asked to donate a portion of their Halloween candy that will then be donated to Veterans' Hospital.

Please turn in the candy by Friday, November 6th. Elementary students will be doing a math sorting and categorizing lesson, then it will be donated.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT
This Tuesday, November 3rd is a 2:30 dismissal for middle school. Students can take advantage of this opportunity to participate in a community service activity on the patio outside the cafeteria from 2:30 until 3:15.

All students who participate will earn community service hours.

CANNED FOOD DRIVE
Service Learning invites the Husky Nation to participate in the annual Canned Food Drive from Monday, November 16th through Friday, November 20th.  We will be collecting non-perishable food items to donate to the less fortunate. Please consider donating items such as soup, pasta, beans, nutrition bars, and canned fruits and vegetables.

Deposit your non-perishable, unexpired food items into the bins that will be located in the main hallway.

Scholastic Book Fair

A culture is born when books, flower children, and some great '60s music come together at a Book Fair you can really dig. We believe in the power of books. So join hands with us November 16th through 20th at our Feelin' Groovy Book Fair. Books are beautiful things!
Farm-to-School
by Linda Barber

Have you heard the news? Our PTA is starting a farm-to-school program!

On Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 (starting November 4th), in the school yard, you can pick up a box of organic fruits and vegetables for your family. The box comes with easy recipes and what's in season locally, which means very fresh produce! 5% from every box comes back to our school.

To learn more and order your box, click here or go to www.farmsignup.com. When signing up, choose Horace Mann as your pick up location. Use coupon code SCHOOL16 for $5 off your first box.
