PTA News
by Tina Wiener, PTA President
We're off to a terrific start this year and so much is due to the amount of involvement and enthusiasm we've had from the parent community at Horace Mann. Our final PTA Bistro will be taking place on Monday, August 31st at 8:30am on the topic of Construction. The first two Bistros with Mr. Oaxaca have been standing room only; I cannot encourage you enough to attend these morning meetings to get educated on issues affecting the school and your children. Giving Back to the Community
by Caitlin Carter
We have many activities coming up at Horace Mann, such as Bottles for Bed Nets, trick or treat for UNICEF, a canned food collection at Thanksgiving, a toy drive in December, and the Feed the Hungry event on Christmas Eve. In addition, on every middle school early dismissal day, students will gather on the patio outside the cafeteria to participate in activities such as writing holiday cards or thank you letters to veterans from 2:30 - 3:30.
Keep an eye on the PTA's monthly newsletter and e-blasts on Sunday for upcoming opportunities to become involved.

Box Tops for Education
by Celina Serrano
I hope you have been saving your Box Tops all summer. Our goal this year is for every student to bring in five Box Tops a month. That equals $0.50 per student every month. By the end of the year we should earn over $2,000. Teachers collect Box Tops in class and there is a collection box in the main office.
One Wednesday a month we will collect Box Tops on the playground in the morning. Box Tops come on all sorts of products. Have your extended family and friends save them for you too.
Each class that turns in at least $7.00 (70) worth of Box Tops a month will be entered into the PTA sponsored raffle. Your class could win a popcorn party, Popsicle party, or amazing prizes! Please contact Celina Serrano at cserranohmpta@gmail.com with any questions or if you would like to help.

Grade-Level Socials
Get to know the families in your child's class!
During the months of September and October, each grade level will be hosting a social so that families can have a chance to mingle and get acquainted, outside of school time. The 3rd grade class kicked off this program last Friday with a fun-filled family playdate at Roxbury Park. Over 40 families turned out to enjoy the afternoon with games (led by our amazing 3rd grade dads), snacks, and great camaraderie.

Volunteers - We Need You!
Thanks to all of you who signed up to volunteer this year for our back-to-school event using Sign-Up Genius! It's a terrific way to find parents to help out for an hour or two at large events which the school is hosting.
We are still looking for a few parents to take on leadership roles in the following areas. Contact tinawiener@sbcglobal.net if you are interested in getting involved.

To Russia with Love
by Matisse Love (HM alumna)
The Bolshoi Academy in Moscow just offered me a three year contract with their school to train and to become a graduate of theirs. The Bolshoi Ballet Academy is THE MOST famous, the most exclusive, and one of the oldest schools in the world. It's like the Harvard or Yale of ballet!
To help offset the costs of tuition, travel, pointe shoes, online schooling, etc., I have set up this GoFundMe page. Please consider donating any amount you can.
