District Personnel Changes Are Coming
  |
by Principal Steve Kessler
It is with great enthusiasm and a bit of sadness that I announce to the Husky Nation that on March 31st our Board of Education is scheduled to ratify my appointment as the next Superintendent of Schools for the Beverly Hills Unified School District.

I will continue as Principal of our beloved Horace Mann School for the remainder of the current school year. During that time I will be directly involved in the selection of the new Horace Mann Principal. Once the new Principal is chosen, I will work closely with the new Principal to ensure an easy transition.

In addition, I will continue to closely monitor the ongoing construction project as your Principal and the Superintendent until the project is complete. I am happy to report that the project continues to be on schedule with a completion date of late Spring 2016.
On another note, Assistant Principal Jill Bakhsh, will be taking a leave of absence beginning Wednesday, March 25th in anticipation of the birth of her child. We are very excited for Mrs. Bakhsh but will miss her greatly. I am happy to announce that in her place beginning immediately after our Spring break will be the return of former Horace Mann Assistant Principal, Mrs. Dana Findley.

Being that I began my teaching career at Horace Mann School in 1976, I will greatly miss being involved in the day-to-day activities of the school once I assume the position of Superintendent of schools. However, once a husky, always a husky and I will always hold Horace Mann School close to my heart. Thank you in advance for all the years of support you have given me in my efforts to make Horace Mann School one of the finest schools in the entire nation.

 Construction Update

 |
by Principal Steve KesslerDue to the rapid pace of our construction, beginning Wednesday, March 25th the construction barricade will be extended to the curb along the north side of Charleville Blvd. The barricade will extend from our entrance to the playground up to the corner of Charleville Blvd. and Robertson Dr. This will obviously impact pickup and drop off of your children. Signs will be posted that no pickup or drop off will be allowed in that area for the next 12 months. The contractor is taking this measure to insure the safety of our students and others.

Traffic control personnel from the City of Beverly Hills will continue to monitor the traffic. The crossing guards will continue to be stationed at the corner of Robertson and Charleville, the t-intersection in front of the entrance to the playground as well as the intersection of Hamel Dr. and Charleville Blvd.

Additional parking will be available on Charleville Blvd. east of Hamel Dr. Please allow extra time to either pick up or drop off your children. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. However, safety concerns will remain to be our number one priority. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and if you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me.

Check out the Work Zone Cam here for the up-to-the-minute action on site. For any questions or concerns about construction, the Horace Mann Construction Hotline Number is 310-882-3066. Progress in Pictures

 California Assessment Testing

 | |
 |
Your children will be taking California assessments this spring. While our students are familiar with the new format,  it may still feel new to you. Below are the links for three videos that will give you a better indication of the tests they will take in April.  Both assessments, the Computer Adaptive Test and Performance Task, will be taken in the computer labs at school.

Please note the dates for the classroom activity in the Test Schedule here.   Please make sure that your children are present for testing, as it is very difficult to emulate a classroom activity experience with a few students in a make-up session. For more information or if you have any questions, please contact Dana Findley, acting Assistant Principal, while Ms. Bakhsh is out on maternity leave.
