PTA News
|
by Tina Wiener, PTA President
It's hard to believe it's already October! Happy New Year and Happy Fall! This month I'd like to draw your attention to the character education program which our District has adopted. The program helps to foster ethical, responsible, and caring young people by modeling and teaching good character. It is often simply referred to as "The Beverly Hills Way." This year, the emphasis is on INTEGRITY, which is defined as strength of character and action. The program outlines six ways that students can work to model and to incorporate integrity into their lives.

PTA Pledge Drive
|
by Sarah Vanek, VP Membership
A big thank you to all of you who have donated so far to our Husky Pledge Drive. We are so appreciative of your generous contributions because, without you, we can't do all that the PTA does. Last year, 78% of families contributed - a huge success. So, where are we for our 2014/2015 pledge drive? As of today, we are at 40% participation: 60% of families have NOT contributed! Some of you have indicated that you will pay online, but until you actually do, the donation doesn't count. It's not too late, and all contributions are welcome.
There will be ice cream parties for all homerooms which reach 100% participation. A few are close, but no one has reached the goal yet! Please donate today and not only will your child get a party in his/her class but you will be supporting all the great programs that the PTA provides to our students.

Parent Education Night - Special Needs 101
|
October is National Disability Awareness month, so the PTA is bringing you a Parent Education Night focused on Special Needs 101. We aim to educate parents not only on the programs Horace Mann offers to our special needs students, but also on how to educate your own children, yourself, and others in dealing with special needs children. This activity is meant for the entire community, not just special needs parents, to help better understand the similarities and differences of special needs students.
We will be having at least one special education teacher from Horace Mann to speak, along with a former student, Dr. Joanna Rosoff, who is a psychologist that deals with special needs children and their parents. Also, a representative from Autism Speaks will be present. The program will begin at 6:00pm in the library. A Q&A session will follow.
