Join us for our 7th Annual

Comedy Showcase!

 

You won't want to miss this year's line-up of funny guys! Beginning June 4, the library will be hosting live comedy on the front lawn at Katie's Korner every Thursday throughout June from 6:30pm until 8pm.

Join us as we welcome Vidie

Meet & Greet with Vidie

Monday, June 1 | 6:30-7:30pm

Join us for some light refreshments and an opportunity to provide a warm welcome to Nosiviwe "Vidie" Lutuli, our exchange librarian from Masiphumelele Community Library in Cape Town, South Africa. Vidie will give a short presentation about her roll as a librarian in South Africa and community she serves. After, get another chance to mingle with Vidie as we move down to Jet's Pizza. The owners of Jet's have generously offered to give 10% of their sales that evening to contribute to Vidie's expenses during her stay with us.

 

Vidie Holds a Library and Information Science Bachelor's degree from the University of the Western Cape. For the past three years she has been working at Masiphumelele Community Library building relationships with the community with outreach to different age groups. In her spare time, she is a sports fanatic and enjoys rugby and cricket.

Youth Service Group Volunteer Sign-up & Orientation

Summer is just around the corner - does your middle or high school student have some extra time on their hands? The Youth Service Group provides a fun, leadership building volunteer experience that looks good on resumes and scholarship applications.  YSG Orientation sessions are after school at the library on June 3 or June 53:30-4:30pm.  Student going into grade six or above can learn what Youth Service Group is all about, get a schedule for the summer lined up, and get a special YSG T-Shirt. Forms will be available at the Youth Reference Desk and online.

Calling all YSG members - past and present! Join us for pizza and ice cream sundaes as we honor you for your volunteering efforts. Current volunteers will receive certificates for their work during the 2014-2015 year and the YSG Volunteer of the Year will be announced.
