Have you ever dreamed about living in a different geographic environment, gaining new knowledge about a diverse culture, or forming lasting friendships with professional colleagues from other parts of the world?

Well, that's exactly what's going to happen this summer for Emily Meloche, Adult Services Librarian at CDL. Emily will be boarding a plane to South Africa on May 21 to take part in the first-ever Professional Librarian Exchange Program with the Masiphumelele Community Library, in Cape Town, South Africa.  At the same time, Nosiviwe "Vidie" Lutuli, a library professional from Masiphumelele will be boarding a flight scheduled to arrive at Detroit Metro on May 23.

The idea of this exchange was born out of a visit to Cape Town, South Africa by CDL Director Bill Harmer as part of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Peer Learning Meeting in April 2013.
