Join the library's
Summer Reading/Summer Learning Program

Experts agree that children who read during the summer improve their reading skills, while those who don't often slide backward, losing as much as 1-2 months of reading achievement.

Engaging in educational activities during the summer is vital for children. The library's Summer Reading/Summer Learning Program helps meet this need by offering incentives to read during the summer.

New this year, our science-themed
Discovery Center and Challenge Cards will
help keep the spark of learning alive.

Joanne Arnold

Joanne grew up in Gilbertsville, N.Y., then later moved with her family to Boulder, Colorado, where she completed high school and earned a B.S. degree in Business and Marketing from the University of Colorado. In 2007, she moved to Chelsea from Ann Arbor where she says she "appreciates the richness of its small town atmosphere." She enjoys spending time with her family, especially her two sons, as well as reading, writing, and gardening; an activity where she is usually helped by her three dogs and two backyard chickens, Jane and Lizzie. Joanne's favorite book? "Hmmm, (there are) a lot of good books out there, but...everyone should read E.B. White's Charlotte's Web at least once! It's smart, humorous, and you take away a wonderful message about true friendship", says Joanne.

Jill Demske

Jill is originally from Dearborn Heights, MI.

She and her husband Tom moved to the Chelsea area twelve years ago after they got married.
They have a Jack Russell Terrier named Chief, who she adores. She enjoys traveling, and has been to both Africa and Israel in the last few years. Her favorite books are the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, by JRR Tolkien.
