Angela Flournoy

Angela Flournoy is a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, where she received a Dean's Fellowship. She has taught writing at the University of Iowa and at Trinity Washington University and has worked for the Washington, D.C. Public Library. 

Her debut novel, The Turner House, brings us a colorful, complicated brood full of love and pride, sacrifice, and unlikely inheritances. The novel scrutinizes the price we pay for our dreams and futures, and the ways in which our families bring us home.

 

Clayton Eshleman

Clayton Eshleman is one of America's foremost translators and poets, noted in particular for his translations of César Vallejo and for his studies of cave paintings. Eshleman founded and edited among the most innovative poetry journals of the latter part of the 20th century: Caterpillar (20 issues, 1967-1973) and Sulfur (46 issues, 1981-2000). Mr. Eshleman's recognitions and awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship in Poetry, a National Book Award for Translation, two grants from the NEA, two Landon Translation Prizes from the Academy of American Poets, and a Rockefeller Study Center residency in Bellagio, Italy.

Freezer Meals - Simple Meals For Busy People

Busy? No time to cook? Courtney Stinson, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, will share some simple freezer meals and ideas for make-ahead foods that won't leave you slaving over your stove the entire day Saturday. Participants will make and take home a freezer meal and will also learn:

  • How to assemble nutritionally balanced meals for your freezer
  • What types of ingredients freeze well (and taste good as "leftovers")
  • What are the best foods to keep on hand as trusty pantry staples?
  • Activity: Freezer meal assembly
