Find out more about the "maker movement" and the launch of this fun new CDL program in 2015. Try out some of our exciting new equipment, including a 3D printer, and share your ideas for future makerspace activities. All ages, interests and skill levels invited!

National Friends of Library Week

Love your library?  Looking for a way 

to support all the great things it has to offer, 

have fun and meet new people? 

 

Then consider joining the Friends of Chelsea District Library. Anyone interested in finding out more about the Friends, or wishing to join, can stop by the Friends table in the Library lobby on Monday, Tuesday and Saturday between 10am and 12 noon or on Thursday between 6-8pm during Friends Week. Any new or renewing members who sign up during this week will automatically be entered into a drawing to win a Kindle Paperwhite e-reader. In addition, those visiting the Friends table on Monday will be offered the extra treat of a complimentary chair massage, courtesy of Chelsea Wellness Center who is celebrating Massage Therapy Awareness Week. http://friends.chelseadistrictlibrary.org/

Friends Fill a Bag $5 Book Sale

Thousands of beautiful books, CDs, DVDs, audio books and other items are available for purchase. Proceeds from the sales are used to support the Library. Stop by the Friendly Book Cart, always available in the lobby for a great selection of "like-new" books at bargain prices.

 

Teen Read Week Book Festival

Friday, Oct. 17 | 11am-2pm | Ages 12+

Celebrate Teen Read Week on your day off with a book festival! We will have lunch and two different book discussion groups to choose from, as well as a special Real Colors® Personality Challenge with 4H and the Michigan State University Extension. Real Colors® is a user-friendly, intuitive tool that identifies four personality types common to all people. Our Book discussion themes are From Hazel to Alaska: The Fault in Our Stars & other books by John Green, and Destination Dystopia: the Divergent trilogy, and other "faulty futures." A selection of titles from John Green and Veronica Roth will be available for teens registering for the program at the Youth Desk. Note which discussion group you are joining in the Notes field of our online registration form.

Prep Test and Strategies

ACT Practice Test 

with Kaplan Test Prep

Registration Required

The 3.5-hour ACT Practice Test helps students decide which test is right for them. This is a perfect opportunity to experience the ACT and prepare for testing in March. Please bring a simple calculator and a snack to eat/drink during the short breaks in testing. Review session will be November 2.

 

ACT Strategies 101

with Kaplan Test Prep

What type of questions are on the ACT? Why do I have to take the ACT? How can I do well on the ACT? Does my score really make a difference? If you find yourself asking these types of questions come out to our test strategies event and learn the basics of the ACT. Understand why it's important, how you should approach it and what Kaplan can provide to you so that you can score higher.
