Welcome

Introducing Our
New Library Board Member  Jan Carr
Sylvan Township Trustee

I was born in western Michigan, came to the University of Michigan, and have never left the area. I obtained a B.A. degree in secondary education, but did not teach. Later, I graduated with a degree in nursing from St. Clair County Community College. I worked for a number of years in the high risk ante-partum/post-partum unit at St. Joe's Hospital in Ann Arbor. Because of my love of libraries, I later earned a Master's Degree in Library Science from UM in 1989. A concentration in medical libraries enabled me to work for over 15 years at the Ann Arbor Pfizer research library where I supported cardiovascular and diabetes research.

My husband and I moved to Sylvan Township in 1977, but it wasn't until my retirement that I became actively involved in township governance and the Friends of the Chelsea District Library. Representing Sylvan as a library board member is a natural melding of these interests for me.

We Need Your Help!

As part of the Library Collection work group's goal to make our collection more easily accessible and our material easier to find, we are taking a survey of the way our adult fiction is categorized on the 2nd floor.

We want to know if you would prefer having mysteries, science fiction and fantasy shelved in separate sections, or if you would prefer to have all the fiction shelved by author and mark the genres with genre labels on the book spines.

Help us by clicking on the link above. The data we gather will inform our next steps.
