Kids Play Chess
Playing chess is a great way to have fun and make new friends. It also promotes sportsmanship, problem solving, creative thinking, and pattern recognition. Our chess club volunteer, Cindy Blum and chess teacher and private coach of 22 years John Smalec, will be there to work with kids at every skill level. For kids ages 5-12, whether you want to learn to play, help others learn to play, improve your chess skills, or meet new friends to play with, join us for Kid's Play Chess!

Babytime | Introduce your baby or toddler to the wonderful world of books. We'll be singing songs, doing bouncy rhymes, learning some "baby signing", and reading along to fun board books.
Wednesday, September 25
Toddlertime | This storytime emphasizes early literacy skills for your child. We will lay the foundation for reading through letter knowledge and vocabulary building. Activities such as group songs, interactive felt board stories, and our "group troop" action rhymes, will entertain and educate.
Thursday, September 26
Fall Storytime (2-6 year olds) | Our youth librarians will introduce your child to the wonderful world of books by reading great stories, singing funny songs, and making each story come alive through puppets, fingerplays and movement.
Reading Glasses Book Club | Read Good Books. Drink Good Beer. Join Chelsea District Library staff at the Chelsea Alehouse to discuss The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt. Reserved copies of the book are available at the Chelsea District Library Check Out Desk.

Write Michigan Short Story Contest
Kent District Library, Schuler Books & Music, Pooh's Corner and Capital Area District Libraries announce the second annual Write Michigan Short Story Contest, the competition that drew nearly 600 Michigan writers in its inaugural year.
Write Michigan also announces a third category in the contest. The Youth Category is for young writers ages 11 and under, the Teen Category for writers ages 12-17, and the Adult Category for those age 18 and up.
The Write Michigan Contest kicked off on September 3, with an entry deadline of November 30, 2013. Details include a 3,000-word maximum length; $10 entry fee for ages 18 and above, free for 17 and under; Michigan residents only; all entries must be submitted online.
