Go on a Bear Hunt!
Picture Book Walk Opens Saturday, September 14
Silver Maples of Chelsea and the Chelsea District Library are offering readers of all ages a chance to participate in a Picture Book Walk along the Silver Maples Community Wellness Path. Participants will walk the path while reading from large installations of We're Going on a Bear Hunt, written by Michael Rosen and illustrated by acclaimed illustrator, Helen Oxenbury. Art installations will display pages from the picture book and will be placed throughout the wellness path. The Picture Book Walk will open on Saturday, September 14 at 11am at Silver Maples, 100 Silver Maples Dr. with a special ribbon cutting and celebration, including performances by local celebrity readers. In case of rain, meet in the Silver Maples lobby.
The Picture Book Walk installation will be up for viewing through October.
The Library partnered with Meg Gower, Landscape Designer at Gower Design Group, and Lorin Kummer, teacher, artist, and therapist at Pathway to Renewal to determine the best locations along the fitness trail to represent the book-by looking for fun, yet safe, spaces in which to play-out the story. Gower and Kummer have designed, and will install, reusable display signage for the Picture Book Walk. Read more>>

What's the best way to prepare children for school year?
Make sure they have a Chelsea District Library card! Students can turn to the Library for materials, programs, and services that support academic achievement, like our SAT/ACT Combo Practice Test program.
Students can use their library cards from home, too. Our library offers access to important educational resources, like e-books, and online databases such as:

CultureGrams-A leading reference for concise, reliable, and up-to-date cultural information on countries across the globe designed for Upper Elementary through High School.
Opposing Viewpoints in Context- a premier online resource covering today's hottest social issues, from Offshore Drilling to Climate Change, Health Care to Immigration.
