The 5th Annual Midwest Literary Walk offers a star-studded cast of award-winning poets, authors, and musicians known to the public, the literary world, and even to Hollywood. The event takes place at various venues in downtown Chelsea on Saturday, April 27,

11am-5pm. All readings are free and open to the public.

First up is Elmore Leonard, one of America's best known crime fiction writers. Beginning as an ad writer, Leonard has penned 45 novels over his 60-year career, publishing westerns, fiction and screenplays. He will be joined by his son Peter Leonard, an acclaimed writer of suspense thrillers.

Also reading at the event are Michael Brian Ogden, resident artist at the Purple Rose Theatre Company; local poet Lonnie Hull Dupont, accompanied by singer, songwriter, and composer Doug Howell; poet and novelist Jack Driscoll, winner of PEN and Pushcart Prizes and a Michigan Notable Book author; poet and nature writer Michael Delp, and Ojibwe poet and Native American linguistics expert Margaret Noori.

Internationally known Detroit poet, educator and arts activist ML Liebler will emcee the event for the fifth year. One of the Literary Walk's founders, Liebler will be joined during the final reading by the Coyote Monk Poetry Band. For more information, visit the Midwest Literary Walk website.

BabytimeIntroduce your baby or toddler to the wonderful world of books. We'll be singing songs, doing bouncy rhymes, learning some "baby signing" and reading along to fun board books in the first half of this program. In the second half, the toys come out! While the babies play and learn to share, caregivers have a chance to socialize and exchange information.

The Art of Memoir: A Reading by Mary MinockMary Minock is a long-term poet and academic writer, and her new book, The Way-Back Room, represents her first excursion into memoir. Mary grew up in the 1950s and 1960s in the dense Southwest Detroit parish of Holy Redeemer during a time of remarkable changes. She came back to Detroit in 1996, fixed up her childhood home, lived there for a decade, and then moved three blocks away to help restore another stately home.
