I Geek Motherhood

Motherhood... That all-encompassing job from which we derive entire identities, relationships, and for which there is no payment, save when our children say, "I love you, Mommy!" Women who took the plunge, who experience the trials and tribulations every day, reminding ourselves that we are bringing up the next generation of doctors, dancers, firemen, (possibly mermaids) and presidents. We are teaching a new generation of girls how to be mothers in their own right. We thrive on challenges. We survive by reaching out to one another. We geek motherhood! The Chelsea District Library offers many resources to the mothering community, and the parenting community at large. There are children's programs like Storytime, Toddlertime, Reading programs for school-aged children, and events for every season. Recently, they even began a book club, offered in conjunction with the Chelsea Mothers of Preschoolers, bringing a whole new way for mothers to connect and learn. Area mothers and mothering groups are proud to work with Chelsea District Library, and I'm proud to be among them. Because the Chelsea District Library is a resource I can use, it helps me towards my goal of being a better mother. I geek motherhood!

Film Premiere: Christian Roane
Artist-in-Residence Finale Reception

Join us for the premiere of Artist-in-Residence Sharad Patel's feature film Christian Roane.
With a blend of horror and mystery, Christian Roane tells the story of a young man on top of the world - he is a fraternity playboy at a prestigious college, but something darker lurks beneath the surface. After being rebuffed by Sarah, a misfit girl on campus, Christian falls away from his circle of partying frat brothers and becomes more and more obsessed with Sarah. Gradually, the level of Christian's disturbance becomes clear - and eerie questions about his true nature arise.
Sharad has worked on this film for more than five years. This premiere will be a major culmination of his work and we invite you to join us and experience the dark world of Christian Roane.

Libraries: Access to Opportunities
Whatever you geek, fun or serious, the public library supports you. The public library inspires and empowers. With Internet access, knowledgeable librarians and local programs, it is an important resources for your community.
And for millions of Americans, it is their only access to essential resources they need to improve their lives. For many, the library is not a luxury, it is a necessity.
The Library has helped people find jobs, re-educate themselves, and transform their lives for decades, but our role has never been more critical. With high unemployment and many people cutting back on expenses, this vital resource is often the only viable option for active job seekers. The Library helps people get back to work.
To illustrate how today's public libraries provide access to opportunities, I came across this really wonderful video from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Enjoy!
