5 Maintenance Tips for Your Travel Trailer
Camping with a travel trailer is a more common occurrence nowadays. Not to say that tent camping is long gone, but with a family, some find that the comforts of a larger, travel trailer are much more conducive to the type of camping and lifestyle they enjoy! Like cars, travel trailers require some maintenance that should not be overlooked in order to keep your humble camping abode safe and on the road for more trips!
1. Plan for Next Season Now
As you shut down the trailer for the current season, inspect it and make a list of items that need attention as well as options you would like to add, or upgrades. You can then budget money for the priority items first, followed by the wish list.
2. Test Trip
Take a short test trip before the travel season begins and take note of any items that need to be fixed as a result of being out on the road. This will allow for you to have everything ready when you take that first "real" trip.
3. Mechanical Issues
Have a professional RV mechanic look over all the mechanical and electrical systems. Schedule this before the spring rush, so that the mechanic can fit you in without a problem.
4. Holding Tanks
Sanitize your water supply system and clean and flush all the holding tanks. Inspect all hoses and fittings and replace them as necessary. It helps to keep some extra parts on hand in the travel trailer in case one breaks on the road.
5. Heating and Air Conditioning
A major factor contributing to your comfort on a trip is how well your heater and air conditioner are working. Clean them and do a test run on them before leaving on your trip. Replace the air filters at least once a year and inspect them monthly.
Happy Camping!
