8 Tips For Safe Grilling
Summer is the season for grilling. Food just seems to taste better when it's cooked outside and hot off the grill. When you're camping, you might cook every meal on the grill! But what many people forget is that grills can be dangerous and destructive if they're not used safely. Each year there are over 8,800 grill fires in the US that cause over $96 million dollars in property damage and hundreds of injuries! To avoid injury and damage, follow these grilling safety tips and enjoy that summer barbecue!
Grill outside and away from your house, porch, or play areas. Always lift the lid before igniting the flame. Keep your grill clean by removing any grease and build up. Always keep a 3 foot area around the grill clear of any items or plants. Designate someone to stay with the lit grill at all times. Use soap to check for bubbles or leaks in gas hoses and bottles. Always remember to shut the gas off after grilling and let the grill cool with the lid open. For charcoal grilling, make sure to deposit cooled coals in a metal container with a lid.
Happy Camping!
