Campfire Apple Crisp

Labor Day weekend has come and gone, which can only mean one thing; summer is over and fall is upon us. Camping in the summer is always great, but camping in the fall can be even better. Cooler weather, changing foliage, weekends away with the family to escape the midweek stresses of work and school. Here is a fall camping dessert recipe that is sure to start off your fall camping right and keep you coming back for more!
Ingredients:

  • ½ cup old-fashioned oats
  • 6 tbsp flour
  • 3 tbsp packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • dash of nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp butter (and a little bit more for the foil)
  • 3 apples of choice
  • lemon juice
Combine oats, flour, sugars, cinnamon, and nutmeg.  Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.  Toss bowl in the fridge while you prepare the apples.
Wash apples and pat dry.  Core and slice apples, then toss them with a squeeze of lemon juice.
Cut two squares of foil (about a foot each) and lightly butter the center of each piece.
Then place the apples onto of one of the foil pieces and then sprinkle with the crumble mixture.
Place the top piece of foil (butter side down) on the package and crimp the edges inwards until the package is well sealed. Wrap the entire package in another layer of tinfoil - this will help prevent burning around the edges.
Place over the fire or on the grill for about 20 minutes.
Serve and enjoy!

Guided Bike Tours
Are you a guest at Normandy Farms and interested in a complimentary guided mountain bike tour? There are 23 miles of trails looping through the adjacent state forest. The biking is rather challenging so you would need to be experienced in technical trail riding and have your own gear including a mountain bike (not a road bike), repair kit, helmet, and water.  Not recommended for children under 18.  All tours are based on the availability of a guide and are weather permitting. Click here to request a tour.
Family Reunion
Everyone enjoyed the family reunion and there were numerous positive comments about the campground.

"It was a memorable time." "The campground was unbelievably beautiful, the weather held out, the food was super and the company was beyond words. Thank you."

People were impressed how clean the campground was and especially, the bathrooms.  Forty-two people showed up and we had a great time...

A message from our Concierge...
In fall, New England is famous for its glorious foliage as billions of leaves change from green to a kaleidoscope of colors. The air is crisp and cool - perfect for camping, hiking, biking or a good old day trip along back roads, where farm stands are piled high with crunchy apples and orange pumpkins. Fall is also an excellent time to see the New England coastline area - weather is often still warm and beautiful, and the summer crowds are gone. It's a perfect time to walk the beaches, explore antique shops, specialty boutiques, and get the best table on those dockside patios. You'll find beautiful fall colors here too, even along the roadways. We welcome your visit to the Business & Information Center where our Concierge will help you plan your visit to some of our fall favorites!  Let us know of any particular areas you would like to visit by clicking here and allow us to coordinate all of your requests. We'll even have an itinerary waiting for you upon your arrival.
