Cathedral offers workshop on Legislative Advocacy, May 31
This is an opportunity to learn about legislative advocacy and the ministry of the Legislative Advocate of the Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ, Michele Mudrick, who will facilitate the workshop. From the Cathedral's media release: "Our faith calls us to do this work because we have a commitment to justice and fairness for all people, especially the most vulnerable. We are called to live our moral values in public policy to work and encourage legislation for justice on behalf of the marginalized and voiceless." The workshop includes opportunity to discuss and learn from one other about what you, your congregation or community has done or is doing for advocacy as well as for you to get ideas on what you can start doing now. To RSVP, email the Cathedral at office@cccathedral.org.

Women celebrated at ECW's 135th Annnual Meeting
The 135th Annual Meeting of the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) of Connecticut was held May 5 at the Aqua Turf in Southington. Hundreds of women from parishes across the Episcopal Church in Connecticut (ECCT) attended, many with their parish clergy. The day opened with conversation among friends, perusing displays, and a Eucharist with Bishop Douglas presiding and Bishop Ahrens preaching. This was followed by a business meeting with reports from ECW President Valzie Peterkin and other ECW officers, and a keynote address from the Rev. Lindsay Hardin Freeman who has researched and written about women in the Bible. Copies of her popular books were for sale at the Annual Meeting. The event concluded after a luncheon. (This information and the links below are also posted on the God's Mission blog here.)
- To hear Bishop Ahrens' sermon and/or Lindsay Hardin Freeman's presentation, link to our new podcast site: http://ecct.podbean.com/
- To watch a slide show of an assortment of photos taken of ECW members at the event, accompanied by audio of them singing a song/hymn during the Eucharist, click on the image below.
