Commission on Ministry Discernment Day

Are you feeling a pull to do something new and
different? Are you discerning a new vocation? Are you wondering about how you might be called to help others live more faithfully? Would you like to deepen your participation in God's Mission?

ECCT's Commission on Ministry (COM) has organized a Day of Discernment for all the baptized.

Come join us for a day of reflection and learning about call and discernment! We will gather for worship, fellowship, learning and conversation around what it means to be a follower of Jesus, to be called by God to serve God's mission in the world. We will hear from our bishops on how we as Episcopalians in CT are called to be apostles and disciples. In the afternoon we will have a panel discussion with a variety of lay and ordained ministers who live out their calls as chaplains, business people, parish clergy, and mental health professionals. We hope you will join us for this day of discernment!

COM Discernment Day
Saturday February 13
9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m

Florence Li Tim-Oi
Ordination of Florence Li Tim-Oi

Florence Li Tim-Oi is the first woman ordained a priest in the Anglican Communion. Her ordination took place 71 years ago this week. She served Japanese-occupied Hong Kong in World War II. Learn more about her story and legacy here.

Gracious God, we thank you for calling Florence Li Tim-Oi, much-beloved daughter, to be the first woman to exercise the office of a priest in our Communion: By grace of your Spirit inspire us to follow her example, serving your people with patience and happiness all our days, and witnessing in every circumstance to our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the same Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.
What's going on with the Anglican Communion?

If you heard some buzz about The Episcopal Church (TEC) and Anglican Communion this week, but are not sure what is going on, here are three recommended pieces to quickly get you up to speed.

The bishops' letter on the January 2016 Primates Meeting provides a pastoral response to the decisions and news, linked here.

The above bishops' letter responds to the news from the Primates Meeting, which includes a Communiqué, the full text and details of which are linked here.

If you are concerned about The Episcopal Church's relationship with the Anglican Communion, you may want to read this article from the Dean of Berkeley Divinity School at Yale. He responds to somewhat irresponsible, sensationalist headlines drawing attention from media coverage, linked here.
Parochial reports due March 1

Parishes must file a report every year - the "parochial report" - with The Episcopal Church (TEC), with a copy to the Episcopal Church in Connecticut (ECCT). TEC sent forms to each parish last December.  Complete these (online is preferable) and submit online, or mail by March 1, 2016.
Make two copies! Keep one for your records and send the other to Karolyn Nicolaides at The Commons in Meriden, also by March 1, 2016. The bishops and staff need, and appreciate, the information.
