State of the County
 
Over 400 people attended the 2014 State of the County event held at the Pechanga Resort on September 24th.  Tourism was the theme of the night as panelists discussed the various tourist destinations in Riverside County that attract millions of people annually, including Palm Springs and the Desert area, Temecula Wine Country, Desert Hills Premium Outlets, Downtown Riverside, and the Lake Elsinore Storm.
 
Supervisor Jeff Stone discussed the future of tourism in Riverside County and hinted at the Arts and Tourism initiative being developed by EDA in the upcoming Economic Development Strategic Plan. 
Workforce Development Week Open House
 
The Riverside County Workforce Develop-ment Center celebrated Workforce Development Week with an open house at their Riverside location on Spruce Street.
 
Dignitaries in attendance included County CEO, Jay Orr;  California State Senator Richard D. Roth; Assembly member Jose Medina; along with many Workforce Investment Board Members.
 
IAMC Conference Coming to Riverside County
 
Riverside County EDA staff recently attended the 2014 Fall Professional Forum for the Industrial Asset Management Council (IAMC) in Quebec, Canada.  The 2015 Spring Professional Forum will be held in Riverside County in Indian Wells in April, 2015. 
 
IAMC is the leading organization for corporate real estate executives and this is a tremendous opportunity to show major site selectors the advantages that a Riverside County location has to offer. 
CA Competes Tax Credit
 
The latest application round for the California Competes Tax Credit is open through October 27th.  Companies will be applying to receive a portion of $45 million in tax credits for creating jobs in California.  In the first round, four Riverside County companies received tax credit awards.

Food Industry Seminar
 
On September 4th, Riverside County EDA, along with the City of Corona, Riverside County Environmental Health, the California Board of Equalization, ShareKitchen, and the CDC Small Business Finance Corp.,  sponsored a workshop called the "Recipe for Success in the Food Industry."  Featured topics included: How to start and operate a food business; How to understand and properly charge sales tax; Health permits and passing inspections; and Financing food service business start-up and expansion.

City of Banning Employment and Resource Fair
 
The second annual Banning Employment and Resource Fair was held at the City of Banning Community Center on September 25th.  This event is a partnership between the City of Banning, the Banning Chamber of Commerce, and Riverside County EDA.
 
Businesses were welcomed by Senator Mike Morrell and Banning Mayor Debbie Franklin.  Twenty-three local businesses participated and over 250 job seekers attended.
